Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

I am not sure about Bent. I remember we went unusually public with "details" when we sold him

But I am sure that it would be difficult to improve on Levy.

Yes, we sold him for GBP 16.5m to Sunderland, which was exactly what we bought him for.

Re: Gareth Bale

Nice article from the Telegraph, less of the nonsense that the Guardian has been peddling.

Now it seems clear, Bale isn't forcing through this move. I think he understands that if a deal can be reached, fine. But if not, he will get on with it. We had clearly communicated to Real, and they have clearly understood, that we will not be bullied into this and we are going to get the best deal for ourselves.

Good chance we get Bale for another year, but it seems like if we don't, we get Di Maria and Coentrao plus 40-50M to spend on the likes of Willian, new CB and maybe another striker. (Leandro?)

Where does this 'one more year' come from?

If RM can't afford him this year, nothing is going to change next year.

Next year, with Bale staying and Spurs challenging all year for the Premiership title, finishing ahead of the Scum, qualifying for CL, a new contract, why would he leave?

Re: Gareth Bale

Gonna be a sad day when Levy goes. Last few years I feel he has been bang on with everything. I feel like he is ten steps ahead of any other chairman, he sees all the moves.

He learnt a big lesson over Berbatov, after getting his big fee but seeing us fall back on the pitch as a result. Now he seems to know exactly what he wants to do to build a competitive team on the pitch and won't be stopped.

That's the thing isn't it....you can always judge people on whether they LEARN from their mistakes.......now he has been a little slow on getting the striker in department but yeah the Berbatov saga he looks like he's learnt well.

Also Baldini is looking to be an astute move judging on results so far........ don't give in Levy it aint over yet.

Re: Gareth Bale

70s relegated not so good...eighties were good until the Falklands war F**** it up.................

The early seventies side were my favourite, very strong league and we were one of the best sides, tough with brick pitches you needed massive character in your team, it was definitely Billy's second best side that he built.

Because I would assume there comes a point, and this is probably what Levy thinks, that it becomes immoral to keep a player against their will for too long. He is entitled to ask for one more year as he did with Modric, but do keep denying someone what they want, will build resentment.

And it seems like with us, it had been fairly agreed that he would stay another year. So if we do get him for that, then I think we will deal next summer.

It does depend on whether Real is really his dream or not though. If we are challenging for the league and Real's finances implode I don't see why he would need to leave at all to be honest. But it may be that he does have the burning desire to test himself there.

Yes, but two League Cups and a UEFA Cup were all we had to show for it - that team really should have won more honours.

But the pitches at the time probably prevented us from playing the type of football we wanted to.

Morals in football?

Very good points made.

Re: Gareth Bale

I'm sure this has been asked before, but this whole nonsense makes me wonder why the window doesn't close before the season starts?

Because different countries in Europe start their seasons at different times - some earlier than England and some later.

Real Madrid are notorious for staggering the payment of their transfer fees in instalments over a number of years. Tottenham are still owed a substantial sum of money for Luka, money that cant be used to invest in the squad. Real is heavily indebted owing over €590m. They remain under investigation by the European Commission over a land deal with the city council, that figure measures their entire liabilities. The Spanish economy is in tatters along with their bust banking system. The country is littered with ghost estates and even a ghost airport. The emperor has no clothes! Real Madrid do not have and never will have the financial resources to pay Spurs £100 million for Bale.

Isn't it funny that we used to beg for the transfer window to extend whenever we can't sign the players we want by then. Even if there is risk of our players being sold, don't mind the transfer window to stay open until September 1, which is 2 weeks after the season starts. We can use the 2 weeks to analyse the squad and strengthen the team if needed. Remember we used to make signings on the last day of the transfer window for most of the last decade.
