Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

I literally have no idea why Levy or AVB or anyone related to Spurs has turned round to the press and said "Don't listen to Marca, they make up a bunch of brick and try to convince everyone its true". It's annoying how Marca make something up then every newspaper in england treats it as gospel and churns out the same gonad*s.

Slow news day

Re: Gareth Bale

Any "special" relationship with RM should be swiftly brought to an end after this.

Atrocious behaviour, and if anyone else tried it, I'm sure questions would be asked.

Exactly. We don't benefit from it at all anyway from what I can see. It's completley uneeded as well. If we want a player from Madrid we don't need this pointless relationship that allows them to poach our best players. They're behaviour has always been classless as well, didn't mind it so much when they were doing it to United because they dish it out as bad as anyone as well.

Re: Gareth Bale

I wouldn't sell Bale for any money at this moment in time. But if the club don't ask for Higuain in return should Bale leave, then someone needs to be fired.

Maybe if we bought a decent striker sooner or any time in the last 4 years, some of our top players may have stayed.

I don't blame Bale for wanting to go when he's surrounded by dross up front. He's never going to play in a World Cup so he needs to be playing CL every season.

Re: Gareth Bale

I struggle to accept that anyone thinks the 'special relationship' is anything other than something Levy insisted upon to soften the blow of Madrid signing Modric.
It means f-all.
Lets not kid ourselves - Madrid will see us as a nice little club from England, but they'll put us behind United, City, Arse, Chelsea and (I'm afraid) Liverpool in as regards teams from the Prem.
If Levy told them that if they don't back off Bale then the 'special relationship' is over, they'd laugh in his face. Biggest team in the world. Pretty much a bottomless pit of cash. they can do what they want.

Re: Gareth Bale

I don't think foreigners see us as being behind Liverpool now. You get 100 players, offer them the same terms from Spurs and Liverpool and more would pick us.

Re: Gareth Bale

Complete nonsense pedalled as reality...any news story that needs to lead, or use the following words 'sources report' should lead with the following words....'once upon a time in a Footballing Galaxy Far Far Away'

Why can't questions be asked? If these stories are true, then RM are guilty of tapping up and potentially unsettling the player.

My only concern with the current situation is that we might have to sell Bale to fund our recent imports, as DL is often insistent that managers have to balance the books?

Re: Gareth Bale

Bale is going to be aware of Reals interest with or without these news stories so im not sure why people are making such a big deal out of them.

I'd rather we just keep Bale than have to balance the books to pay for the other signings

Re: Gareth Bale

You and me both, but DL has 'previous', doesn't he?

i wouldn't say he has 'previous' in the instance you quoted. only 3 outgoing transfers spring to mind where players left against our wishes - Carrick, Berbatov and Modric and i don't think any were sold in order to balance the books or to pay for other signings

edit : Keane as well i guess.

I genuinely do not know the answer to this question, but when was the last time we overspent on transfers (in a given financial year)? I just seem to remember that we made a net profit on most of these transfers?

Re: Gareth Bale

Does tapping up rules only apply in England ??

Not sure, but what was going on a month ago was nothing short of scandalous. I believe the club elected to stay quiet in the same way that you hold something over someone...of course, what that actually means in this case I haven't the foggiest!

last season according to http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/tottenham-hotspur/transfers-alle/verein_148.html ;)

i don't really look at transfer ins and outs purely by themselves - more the clubs finances as a whole, we have to balance our books otherwise we'd be racking up debt every year and then we'd find ourselves in a bit of a predicament.

but answering your question anyway - the couple of seasons which saw the transition between Commoli to Redknapp saw us spend very heavily (see link above) and most likely was a big reason why we became quite frugal under Redknapp.

do you think we would have kept Modric, Berbatov etc if we could or do you think we was engineering the moves to cover our costs?
