Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Re: AVB On Reals Madrid's Short List For New Manager

I'm not sure you are staying with the same plot line as Billy outlined ;). The idea that Wenger's relationship with the PSG owners would prompt them into offering AVB the PGS job in an attempt to destabilise Spurs is a little barmy. You may not label that a conspiracy theory but that is just semantics. PSG would only offer AVB the job if they wanted him as a manager.

No it's the same plot line. Billy said that Wenger might put forward AVB's name in an attempt to destabilise us. Billy didn't say anything about Wenger forcing them to make a bid or PSG trying to do Wenger a favour.

Of course PSG would have to decide that they want him, however i don't think they'd even glance at AVB unless someone had pointed towards him.

PSG would do whatever is good for PSG, i won't deny that. However it wouldn't be barmy for Wenger to try and point them in the direction that would benefit him most.

Re: AVB - Making Tottenham His Own

According to sources close to Villas-Boas he is extremely grateful to Spurs and Levy for the opportunity they gave him last summer, after he was sacked by Chelsea after only a few months, and does not want to be regarded as a coach who changes clubs every season. He does want to show loyalty to Spurs where he has two more years left on his current deal and where he is settled and happy

Best option for both parts. We will benefit from having continuity on the managerial side, and AVB will want sucess with Spurs to further strengthen his reputation as a manager.

Re: AVB On Reals Madrid's Short List For New Manager

Hmm... so PSG tried to hire AVB to help Arsenal out. :-k Seems a teeny weeny bit MAD as a theory. What if AVB had said yes to PSG's advances? Would they stuck with him then?

"Hey Arsene. Um...remember that job you were thinking of doing for us next year? Well....er...we hired AVB by mistake and now the job is gone. Sorry about that but it was your idea. "

i see this has moved on a bit from my initial post this morning. . . what i was suggesting was that Wenger was asked to put forward some recommendations for PSGs new coach (rumored he knows the owner and was his go to when he entered the world of football, so he has his ear basically) - and possibly in an attempt to destabilize us, his closest rival in the league for the past few seasons, he put forward AVBs name - rather than suggesting him on merit. I don't think that's entirely unreasonable of a suggestion

Re: AVB - Making Tottenham His Own

AVB has to be commended for his loyalty. There isn't a manager in the world who wouldn't have his head turned by such an offer.

Re: AVB - Making Tottenham His Own

I haven't seen anything factual that a) states AVB was offered the job b) He rejected them? Just paper talk saying things as fact as per usual, or is there something I've glossed over?

Re: AVB - Making Tottenham His Own

it's only 'paper talk' which says they were even interested - so why believe one and not the other?

Very true, will only know the extent of these rumours when AVB is quizzed on it in future press conference etc...

Unlimited transfer funds? I've never even got that on FM.

If you get taken over by a sugar daddy you do. If your transfer budget says 0 you can still bid for players and when it comes to buying them it'll just adjust for you.

You can actually get taken over by a sugar daddy in FM?!? So sad.

if you're a club with history but have fallen on hard times, struggling to pay debts that are piling up, you MIGHT get taken over by a rich businessman. It's rare though.

I get that they try to make FM as life like as possible, but I would have hoped that they would exclude these elements that are destroying football...

you can simply remove that element of the game if you'd like, it gives you an option in the game preferences.

Fair enough. Shows that I haven't played much FM since it was called CM about 20 years ago... :-" 8-[

Re: Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas

Duncan Castles, AVB's (one of) press buddies has tweeted tonight that AVB has chosen to stay at Spurs. He's apparently looking forward to going up against Mourinho and expects more aggressive backing in the transfer market

Lets hope so. He obviously needed some time to asses the players he had at his disposal that could best suit his method of play that he wants for us. I still feel he will revert to a more 4-3-3 shape but needs some other players that can come in and help be more flexible within the system. Parker, Lennon and some others are very rigid in how they play. Dembele can float about and Sandro can back up but we need at least 3 players to fill the other midfield spot, a wide spot and a striker.

Im hoping for something along these lines:

------------------LLoris-------------------

Walker---Kaboul------Vertonghen----Rose-

----------------Sandro--------------------
-----Dembele------------Paulinhio----------

-------Bale-----------------Bernard--------
----------------Villa-----------------------

Backup by:

----------------Friedel--------------------

Naughton---Dawson---Caulker------Smith

---------------Holtby--------------------
------Carroll------------Siggy-----------

-------Lennon-------------Townsend------
----------------Defoe---------------------

Squad:
Dempsey
Fryers
Falque
Loungo
Pritchard

Gone:

BAE
Gomes
Parker
Adebayor
Huddlestone
Khumalo
Gallas
Livermore
Bentley

This lot should save some serious wedge on wages. Also we need to leave spaces for younger players to make it through.

but apparently AVB has little say in who we buy?

He's part of a group of people who decide who the targets are.

Unless you're United and Everton of old, with 5-10+ years of service from your manager it doesn't make sense to just let the manager have free rein.
