Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

well I think most of us are 'prepared' for this.

I dont know the ins/outs of this BT contract or how his missus might feel about uprooting to spain with a newborn.......

either way we have to accept this is REAL FACKIN MADRID who 99.9% of the time get whatever they WANT!!!!!

if Bale wants to leave we cant fanny around we must stick to 70mil say it must be done mid june or he remains at spurs.

I think AVB & LEVY are prepared for this.....Madrid will do all they can to unsettle and then just before elections that TOAD perex will come in hard with a bid.

we must be willing to accept he wont grace us in the lillywhite shirt ever again he has simply evolved into an elite player and unfortunatley we are not an elite club......were a great club but nowhere near madrids level.

I wont be mad at bale and i dont think he will act like a tit......either way he gave us everything last season and no spurs fan in my mind could deny that he deserves his place amongst the elite challenging for titles and champs league trophy.

I agree with most of that .

If Bale goes, then from a progressing the club forward on the pitch point of view, I'd say, Levy has missed an opportunity . To have had the talents of Bale, VDV, and Modric these past couple of seasons and at the same time, to have been so lacking in what I'd call proper strikers, smacks of incompetence and trying to do things on the cheap. However , I don't blame our center forward situation entirely on him. I think Harry has to take some of the blame and AVB, having not been able to get in the striker he wanted (Damaio), expressed his happiness with what he had in Defoe and Adebayor.

If we try looking at it from Bale's point of view rather than as Spurs fans then we can surely understand the desire to play in a better team and at a higher level in the Champions League. Thou, I just don't think it should be Real Madrid.

Jonathan Barnett Bale's agent , "We're not talking to Tott but If Florentino Real Madrid's president is interested in Gareth Bale it would be an honour and we would listen"

Re: Gareth Bale

Whatever happens I hope it gets sorted quickly as I'm bored of this already. Every summer there is a transfer saga that just bores me to tears e.g. Modric, fabregas, Cole etc

Re: Gareth Bale

If Bale does go, it will be unfortunate because a season of him plus AVB specific signings, particularly upfront could have been us be pretty deadly. A great player leaving does often cause a bit of a struggle to adjust to new ways and combinations - Arsenal seen to show that every year - but maybe the fact we should receive a fairly astronomical amount of money for Bale would allow us to get real quality in right across the park and lessen the transition time.

I agree with what I think you're saying though, I don't think selling one player means it should be written of as transitional. However I can understand why new manager + new coaching staff - multiple key players does.

It's not unfortunate it's careless, could have been avoided but the needs of the club were not met

Re: Gareth Bale

It just shows that Levy is a liar and does not care about competing. Ultimately football is a business and he needs to be seen making a profit and running a club efficiently. We do not have millions to waste and if we are still making a profit without being in the Champions League then the board are deemed to be running an efficient business and long may that continue. Spending £9m (guess) on Bale and making £50m from that one piece of business is fcking huge to the board and they will go on getting their bonuses for performance whilst we pay a slight increase on out ST's and tickets and help contribute to the club's increase revenue year in year out but do not see any success or return on the pitch.

Sorry WTF? How does a quote from Gareth Bale's agent saying that it would be an honour if Real Madrid were interested in Bale and that they would definately talk to them if they had the opportunity, but that he has 3 years left on his contract and he can't talk to anyone right now....mean that Levy has lied?

For all you know Madrid have bid £70m and Levy has told them to stick it up Michael Essien's Japseye!

This is kneejerking at its very worse. I honestly can't see how you have come up with this stance?

Well ok, IF we sell him thats all I'm saying. But on the last couple of season's it shows we are a selling club and do not really want to compete. A bit like Arsenal. If we wanted to compete we would have signed strikers last year. Time will tell, but IF we sell Bale this summer then it will show that Levy has lied. Sorry, I should have said IF not that Levy IS a liar. My bad.

Re: Gareth Bale

Real Madrid is a joke club. For all the money they spend, how many trophies they have won in the last 5 years : 1 league title and 2 Spanish Cups. They won the league title last season only because of Mourinho. And now they have sacked Mourinho. They sacked Del Bosque who won them 2 CL trophies and they have not won it for 11 years now. Somone should tell them they cannot have stability to win trophies if they keep on chopping and changing players and managers every season. They should learn it from Barcelona who are more successfull in recent years because they have more stability since they always bring up their own players and managers. Barcelona have completely overshadowed Real since the emergence of Messi and will continue to do so in years to come. If Bale wants to win major trophies like CL, he should join Barcelona, not Real Madrid.[/QUOTE

I'm not going to argue debt levels against huge revenues but the truth is they're both similar in ilk to Emirates Marketing Project and the Chav's. An uneven playing field with them having the advantages is what its all about for them. I hate them all .

I dont think any of us would be foolish enough to suggest levy is a poo poo negotiator.

I admire levy and respect alot of what he has done.

I think people's frustation with levy and mine is that we feel he has missed GLARING opportunities to really push us on. he has failed to be brave enough when buying us a half decent striker would prob have us looking at cl footie next season....more cash to plan with and more importantly a bigger organic muther of a carrott to dangle in front of Bale and say 'your future is here'

thats where peoples frustrations mine included come from.

Re: Gareth Bale

I don't really get the anger towards Levy, he's shown with Modric that he wasn't purely about the money and did want to give us the best possible chance of competing. I would even say that not selling Modric to Chelsea should have gotten us third place if all the England stuff didn't happen - Modric goes there and AVB would have had a great player to make his system work alongside Mata and he probably wouldn't have got sacked. Shame we couldn't carry it through on the pitch, but Levy played a blinder there because even Chelsea players were quoted as saying at the time they fully expected Mldric to be a Chelsea player at the end of the window...but it never happened.

If Bake goes Levy doesn't need to be shown anger, it's just the realities of where we are as a club, we aren't one of the biggest possible so we will always lose a player such as Bale eventually. The good thing is, as long as we don't seriously miss spend our windfall like Liverpool, the Bale money allows us to remain competitive and maybe even strengthen overall. I'm just wondering where exactly all this other money is supposed to have come from that Levy should have been spending, because it doesn't seem like we run massive profits in the accounts.

At the end of the day though, what choice do we have? We have to accept that every season we are not in the Champions League and competing we risk having our best players poached by other clubs. Levy has been angry on each occasion this has happened. I remember him blasting Robbie Keane in particular who apparently walked into Levy's office and said he would not put foot on a pitch again for Spurs.

What are you actually supposed to do in the face of that? Levy knows he could potentially sit Keane in the reserves, but Keane could possibly have brought the case to court under restraint of trade, or breach of the EU freedom of movement of workers regulations if we did this. Plus, his value as an asset would diminish.

It's best to get best value in situations like that and it wouldn't make him a liar. He says we will not sell our best players.

What that means in practice is that if it is up to us we will turn down all bids. If the player says I want to leave and acts like a prick, then what does he do? I don't think that is lying.

Re: Gareth Bale

Money talks. As I said earlier, we are a business first and foremost. Profit over success. Unfortunately you have to spend big to win nowadays (unless you have heart and desire like Wigan did for the FA Cup but thats lost its glory a little anyway).

It appears (as I do not know Levy or the board) that we are a selling club (Berbatov, Modric, VDV) and would rather make a profit than take risks in trying to win something. That's fine for the stability of the club and if you want to keep making profits (a bit like Ar5enal) but a time comes when football is about winning and you need to take that extra risk or spend that extra 2 or 3 million to try and get success.

Unfortunately we are a small time club compared to Utd, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barca so we will more than likely lose our players to the big clubs. But how can you change that tag of being a small club when you keep selling your best players?

Re: Gareth Bale

might just be me, but surely Bale would have to listen to what Real Madrid offered as for them to be able to talk to him they would have had to have a bid accepted by us first, if we accept a bid why wouldn't he talk to them?

storm in a teacup

I posted my comment above before this. I do agree with what you are saying. The thing is, Levy can come out and say "Bale is not leaving no matter what money we get offered this season" and to somewhat AVB has been told that (if you believe what he says in recent interviews) saying that it has come from the top. But Levy is probably licking his lips at what offers he will get for Bale this summer. As said previously, making £50m on one player is huge and the board probably get bonuses for increasing the financial stability of the club or have set targets to achieve so they would probably prefer to take a windfall from selling Bale than actually spending money (and risking their bonuses each year and jobs sometimes) and trying to compete.

We will never know what goes on inside the club. Maybe calling Levy a liar is harsh, but I think Spurs are a profit making club first and foremost than a competitive club on the pitch.

MONEY! We dont have a rich oil baron simples as that.

I dream of us winning the league as we are and gazumping all the bankrolled teams.

unfortunatley it wont happen.

if we get a new stadium and are bankrolled by a billionaire then we are in business.

It always comes down to money.... i dont like it but their it is. it really is that simple.... in the money stakes we are not massive players.

But we're not making profits, we're breaking even most years. Our debt is increasing due to the training ground and stadium and no money is being taken out of the club.

Re: Gareth Bale

The level of idiocy on this board is amazing

In the current world of football, players hold all the power, Levy has no say about if Carrick/Keane/Berbs/Modric/Bale stay or leave, the most he can do is offer the player another option (wage increase), and force the buying club to pay the absolute best price.

People forget United sold Ronaldo to Real ... so people think us selling Modric (or Bale) makes us a selling club? compared to which club isn't?

Re: Gareth Bale

Barca and Real are the only clubs that aren't 'selling clubs'. The sugar daddy clubs will be again once their money disappear.

Problem is, United had other world class players (Giggs, Scholes, Rooney, Vidic, De Saar) just a few that could "bale" (see what I did there?!) them out and they still won the league without him. So they can afford to lose one of their "world class" players.

Bale is pretty much our only World Class player (maybe Lloris) so we are fcuked if we sell him. Completely different situations dude.

Re: Gareth Bale

Some guy on a Spurs site has claimed to have emailed Jonathan Barnett and got a response.

Full article here. I do feel this is a storm in a teacup as above.

Lets just wait and see. In truth the media have ways of getting through to the phone lines they need but why he did the interview I'll never know. Was funny though when he became conscious of what he was saying about speaking to any clubs.
