Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

I think it's time to flood Gareth's twitter account! Everyone tell him we'll sacrifice part of our miserable salaries so he'll stay. That'll tug a few heart strings

Re: Gareth Bale

Its three not four.

The thing is if Bale doesnt sign - he would have two years next season and his value drops from say 60m to 40m. Thats something that may well play on Levys mind. I think Bale signs and we agree to let him go next season if no CL. At least that way WE both win. Bale strikes me as a genuine guy and wants to pay us back for the faith we have shown him and how we have developed him.

The value doesn't drop like that when there's 2 years left, the value drops when there is 1 year left, the point of clubs typically selling with 2 years to go is that it's the last time the club can get maximum value for their player. If its one year to go, they are pretty much at the buying clubs mercy.

Still though, I think as much as this agent tries to hawk Bale around, Levy showed with Modric it doesn't really matter. He will expect another year out of Bale at least.

Still if not, it's a brick load of money to truly shape the squad in AVBs image. If last summer he was playing catch up because of Rafa, Modric and King going, then this summer with a load of money he should be able to get it exactly how he wants it.

Re: Gareth Bale

What's the rush Gareth? An outstanding player absolutely adored at Tottenham. The main man, a team built for him to showcase his talents. Get us into the CL next season then go and fill your boots, it will be a sad day to see him in another team's kit. (Not Wales)

Re: Gareth Bale

As an aside, have to laugh at the Guardians story on this today, where theyve tried to claim the fact that Bale names his daughter Alba Violet is a sign of respect towards AVB.

I have to believe its a funny coincidence that Bale probably got torn to pieces for in the changing room, and that he didn't literally name his daughter after his new manager because he enjoyed the free role he was given. That would be mental.

Then if it all goes tits up people will be calling it another transitional season because of the Bale sale.

Re: Gareth Bale

Modric gave us an extra year after the £40m bid from Chelsea.

I don't see why Bale should play an extra year if I'm honest. As mentioned previously, a four year absense from CL for a player of his ability could start to hinder his development.

How about the fact he is under contract? Should that not count for something, or should we sell Lloris to Monaco as well when they come knocking, because the rumors have already started?

Carrick, Berbatov, Keane, Modric now Bale whenever a CL club comes knocking we open the door, and we wonder why when we sell key players we have only managed to qualify ourselves on one occasion.

We should keep Bale a make a statement and really strengthen our side and go for it.

Re: Gareth Bale

I think we all should be prepared for this .

And if you are right it makes Levy look spineless. always telling us that our key players will not be sold and always buckling under the pressure, maybe he should keep his gob shut in the first place

If Bale does go, it will be unfortunate because a season of him plus AVB specific signings, particularly upfront could have been us be pretty deadly. A great player leaving does often cause a bit of a struggle to adjust to new ways and combinations - Arsenal seen to show that every year - but maybe the fact we should receive a fairly astronomical amount of money for Bale would allow us to get real quality in right across the park and lessen the transition time.

I agree with what I think you're saying though, I don't think selling one player means it should be written of as transitional. However I can understand why new manager + new coaching staff - multiple key players does.

Well let's wait and see but as they say , if the player wants out.

Re: Gareth Bale

i really think we can get 100 mill from Real and i think we should take it now...its mega money and will give our manager the freedom to buy some players he wants

This

And if Levy was a man of his word he would keep Bale this summer and really give us some quality to have a go next season.

You sell Bale for £60m and a player that would cost £10m all of a sudden costs £20m because everyone knows we are desparate after losing our talisman. Or a £20m player jumps up to £30m and in a blink of an eye the money has gone.

It took time for Bale to develop into the beast he has become, I doubt anyone close to that quality would want to come to us when they could go to a CL team

Not with 3 years left on his contract and a chairman with a backbone

What happens if we are able to buy a gem and this time next season Madrid wants that diamond as well?

Levy needs to grow a pair and say no, at least not this season

I think largely it's a negotiating tactic in itself. If you make a big deal out of saying your key player won't be going, and a club comes knocking in negotiations you can then say 'but we've said he isn't going, fans would be in uproar if he did, you need to compensate us for that.'

I'm actually fairly comfortable that whatever happens, we will do well out of this. I trust Levy in negotiations and I believe because he doesn't want to annoy AVB, he won't drag this on all summer. There comes a point where the extra 5 million or whatever on the fee becomes a massive hindrance to achieving our objectives because we waited for it for so long.

And what do you think will happen when Spurs want to sign a player who they value at £15m when the selling club knows (or believes) we have a £100 war chest?

I just do not want it to drag on and having to bring in ordinary players on August 31st after getting 1 point from our first 3 games

We're not going to be able to replace Bale in the future with someone as good but look at Arsenal, they are a stronger side without Van Persie, as they strengthened overall.
