Jan Vertonghen

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

He really is going to be a great player, once him and Kaboul get together we will have a top pair of CB's.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

dude she is like 13 years old :(

really? didn't notice that. more seriously, we seem to be picking new younger fans with our recent success. I have a nephew who suddenly started questioning why he is following manchester united - his father's club - and "adopted" spurs as his second club. I got him a spurs jersey just for that, strangely my bro-in-law never said thanks :) This must be good for club membership renewal eh...i think the bulk of us grew up watching spurs in the 80's or earlier. so these young fans will be the future on here too.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

Noticed Vertonghen wasn't afraid to play it a bit dirty yesterday - he made a meal out of both yellow carded tackles from Adam. It paid off as well, with Adam (rightfully) being sent off. Question is, would Adam have been sent off if Vertonghen didn't scream and/or clutch his legs after being tackled?

Personally I'm a little bit divided when it comes to this, because ideally it shouldn't matter how a player reacts to being fouled. But when it clearly does matter, and referes are affected by the fouled player's reaction, is it still the right thing to do? Adam obviously deserved it, the venomous little maggot, so I'm glad Vertonghen did what he did yesterday. But a part of me thinks this is also the first step in the direction of Chelski's Total ****ishness™, which I don't want Spurs to be a part of.

Am I wrong?

I love Vertonghen's winning mentality though. Something that we've been missing in most players for years.

Watch the first challenge again, yes he didnt catch him but Jan was lucky as Adam's foot was miles high and if it connected it could have been very serious.

Personally, I believe in Karma. That fat toss deserves everything he gets.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree. Both challenges were worthy of yellow cards, and I was laughing as hard as anyone in here when Adam was sent off. I'm just questioning whether Vertonghen's reactions made it easier for the ref to pull out his cards - because I've certainly seen fouls like that go unpunished many times.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

There was very nasty tackle on Dempsey earlier in the match by Adam which was at least a yellow IMO, and he escaped without punishment. Normally I don't like the idea of our lads screaming and rolling around but in this case I'll make an exception. Adams is a dangerous player and was out to hurt us in the literal sense of the word. Fat fudge.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

as has been repeatedly pointed out - Charlie Adam, you know what you are

The first booking to me is a little harsh. I would be disappointed if I was booked for that as the ball was bouncing around just yards from the goal and it was there to be won. It was high and I can see why he was booked but it was a little unlucky. As for his second yellow, I think he does catch the heel/achilles of Vertonghen and after you have been booked, why would you even attempt to make that challenge? Its just so braindead it is untrue.....on a par with Benteke really. Sometimes I wish Footballers would just think about the bigger picture before doing something on the pitch but on this occasion I am glad he didnt and as has been said, karma has rightly come round to bite Charlie Adam on the backside.

Only the ref (and maybe Adam if he explained) will know, but I think the first yellow was for an accumulation of yellow-worthy tackles. Hadn't the ref spoken to Adam about 5 mins before after another tackle? I'm sure it was him.

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

I think he does actually catch him. Jan's left foot just after touching the ball seems to get caught under the fat weight of Adam as he dives in. Stupid challenge was never getting the ball from that position

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

That first yellow was never a booking. If that was a Spurs player booked for that we'd be going nuts! However was stupid to make that challenge on Jan already on a yellow.....

Re: Super Jan Vertonghen Official

All i know is that he owed us.. For me its was a bit of payback as I think we would have struggled for the 2nd goal otherwise..

Maybe thats exactly what he thought? Why on earth would anyone go in like that on a yellow card?

Seems abit odd to me.
