AVB doing voodoo from the sidelines again? :)

I just feel relief. If we'd lost it would have been yet another missed opportunity. Everything still to play for. Hope we can keep fit and energised. We don't really have one of the biggest squads.

Out fixtures look very hard so the 7 point buffer should release some pressure and add confidence.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Enjoy the win and bring on the next game.

Hugo: "We didn't give too many opportunities to them after their goal. I enjoyed it. We needed to keep going and the season is not finished. We need to continue this way."

Vertonghen: "An amazing feeling. They started well, but world class players make the difference & we have lots. We stayed compact and we have a world class goalkeeper. We defended very well"

Wonder if Statto could draw up results when Dembele is ON the pitch. I'm sure we have yet to lose when he has been on the pitch.

We lost to Everton but I'm sure we were drawing or winning when he was on.
Lost to City, Arsenal Wigan and Chelsea but he was out injured.

People are being harsh on Ade once again, it's really quite unsavoury. His runs created space for the goals and other than that, he wasn't any better or any worse than the rest of the team. Bale was virtually invisible for the second half if we want to look at it like that.

But doing that is pointless. We need to see that it was an excellent, intelligent performance again. We are a team of proper professionals now. We soak up pressure when we need to. We break when the best opportunities arise. We can play possession football but when we need to we can dig in deep and shut teams out completely. Apart from Ramsey's chance today they created sod all, while we had Defoe and Sig's efforts in the second half off the top of my head, that really could have put the game to bed.

Should also say Defoe looked 'better' than Ade largely because that was the period of the game we were breaking with purpose at the same time Arsenal started to throw men forward. If Ade was on the pitch at that time he would have looked good too. After that period we shut up shop again and had to grind it out but like against Liverpool, we managed to do it.

So..

We have NOT lost when leading by exactly 2 goals at half time at WHL.
We have NOT lost when Lennon has scored.
We have NOT lost when Dawson has started this season.

  • Gareth Bale has scored more goals against Arsenal than any other Premier League team in his top-flight career (five).
  • This fixture has seen more goals than any other in Premier League history (124).
