***Tottenham Hotspur vs West Brom*** Official Match Thread

AVB did say this about Holtby earlier, but was still hoping he might start.

"Maybe it's a little too early for him to start. He needs more time to settle in, both on the pitch and personal life. He is looking to find a house, trying to settle all the things that surround him, but you can see he gets along very well with everyone quickly. Lots of players are doing well for us, so it is difficult to get into the team."

holtby for parker would have been perfect.. but i guess we're in for ninety minutes of pirouetting. yay.

Thought Kane might have been on teh bench just so that we a CF available. Really got to hope Togo go out this evening

Would have liked to see Holtby in for Dempsey, but it's sensible to not rush him into the team too quickly, I guess. Would also been harsh on Dempsey who has been good lately, but that's the position we will see Holtby, I think.

I think the plan is to send him on a loan to the Championship

Although a player can be registered for 3 clubs in a season he can only play for 2. If we played him today we wouldn't be able to send him out on a loan to get gametime in the Championship.

AVB has put too much faith in the Dawson Vertonghen partnership today imo; Lukaku could make mincemeat out of both of them. I'm not even going to talk about the lack of pace through the middle or thbe fact that Lukaku bullied Jan back in August :(

It would have been very exciting for sure.

But I think it's just too soon. Remember how Modric took quite a long time to adapt to the PL before starting to shine as a central midfielder. Alongside Dembele who isn't a proper defensive midfielder away in what is bound to be a tough game it would have been a lot to ask from young Holtby when so new at the club.

I think AVB is doing the sensible thing. And I think Parker will bounce back sooner or later, we really need him to find some form with Sandro out for the season. The best way to find that form is to play.

Who would you prefer?
Gallas who has aged about 3 years in a season and looks shocking.
Or Caulker who really should have cost us the game against Man Utd.

By the way I rate Caulkers abaility, just his form at the moment.

Avb taking it slow

I just hoped AVB had learned his lesson from Norwich at home where he also started Dembele on the bench and we looked clueless until he was introduced. Holtby is fully fit and showed against Norwich that he can contribute with creativity which we so desperately need and Dempsey was awful in that game, so it wouldn't be unfair to drop him. I really these cliches in football.

Yeah, the issue with dropping Dempsey is that he is the only one of our players currently scoring on a regular basis or who actually looks likely to score.

I agree. I was at that game and Lukaku was both quick and strong. For all his inexperience I would have preferred Caulker as he is quicker than Dawson. if Lukaku and Dawson go head to head/foot to foot, Dawson -as good as defender as he is -will get done for pace.

I agree, no reason to think that Caulker wouldn't be bullied just as much as Daws and Vertonghen. Of course Gallas would be bullied even more.

Good decision by AVB imo.

I think AVB is expecting a tough game. Holtby and Defoe would leave us very short (literally) up front, Lennon and Bale the main players supporting them and with Parker and Dembele in the centre that is almost a team of midgets.

Dempsey gives us some fight, some physical presence and someone who can actually win a header once in a while. Might have been different if Ade was around.
