iPhone 5 - to be announced today

Ive found the 4s to be pretty robust - i work mostly on building sites and it has survived over a year (without a protective cover). plenty of high drops to concrete etc

I dropped my iphone in a toilet (pre use) 14 months ago. That's how I found out I could remove the battery easily. Still works with but 1 issue to this day (the wifi doesn't work properly)

The battery is the least of your worries if you drop a phone in water.

Also, dropped my iPhone on concrete last night. Survived! \o/

The battery is the source of electricity, and it's the electricity flowing through the phone that can short it. Once I had the battery out of the phone I could start the process of drying the phone.

Sure, but even if you drop a phone in water without a battery, it's still unlikely to work properly.

True, but by taking the battery out you've got a much better chance.

I dropped my phone in the pint of water ~10 months ago. I had the battery out of the phone in no time at all and left the phone in a bowl of rice for about 3 days (rice absorbs water)

My phone is still working fine.

it's always described as "apple fanboys" vs "people who aren't sheep" categories.

iPhone5, yes the hardware is available on Samsungs or HTCs, I know that. But Software wise, the Apple is unparalleled. iOS6 is a far better OS than Android in my opinion.

Anyway, as that iPhone chap Iver (forget his first name) mentioned, your phone is a part of your life now. Goes everywhere with you, one of the first/last things you check before bed, whether that's right or wrong, it's how it is for a lot of people.

And for me, the iPhone works perfectly in my life. Yes because I use other Apple Products, iTunes for example, so syncing music is easy. I can control my iTunes library via my phone, which works perfectly when you're having a poker session with the lads and can change the music without leaving the table.

I also like the Apps. I'm not gonna try and convince anyone, different to certain people, but i love my iPhone, and am all over the iPhone5 without a doubt

That's cool and I respect your opinion as everyone has their right to favor a product/make over another but I'm interested to hear a few answers to the following questions;

1) You mention the apps but most apps on Apple are available on Android as the developers want to reach the mass majority of the market. By developing only for Apple they are cutting out over 60% of mobile users. What apps are on Apple that make is superior?

2) What makes Apple OS better than Android? From what I can see the software is very similar in function if used on a phone with comparable hardware. Speed, function and even the GUI has similarities. Example the scroll on the apps screen or the pinch zoom function on pictures are identical and editing software for things like photos are parallel by using free products like Instagram. Open source allows customization though and that has its advantages (i.e. removal of operator forced products/ applications).

3) The music using iTunes imo is a negative thing. ITunes makes transferring music to a product far more complicated than it has to be. I don't have an IPod as I got a free gift from work a while ago which is a Philips MP3 player costing around £90. To transfer music it's simply My Computer> Product Drive> Drag and Drop. My library of music is on a cloud, accessible anywhere with internet access and can be changed in seconds.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater of Apple products as I've owned an Iphone in the past. I also think their products are the most eye pleasing products on the market that have an expensive feel. I do feel however people need to provide reason to saying another product is better without being in favor to something they own with facts. I can argue all day that an orange is better that an apple if I prefer oranges and you prefer the later.

To be honest, I don't know why they connector being changed is even a contentious point.

That's a bit of an unfair argument. That picture shows adapters for the many phones Samsung bring out for phones across a wide variation in prices from the low budget £40 phones to their Galaxy S III.

Apple bring out a single phone every 18 months or so.

What on earth does that show? A bunch of very similar hardware features and then just list some of the software of the Samsung/Android phone but not iPhone?

Oh the samsung has a removable battery, that will be useful. I'm definitely switching.
