He makes my blood boil every game! Reckless tackles that completely puts him out of the game when he misses it, which he does more often than not. He's slow as a turtle. That's pretty much been a constant. But today, in addition to those, was him completely ignoring and refusing to pass out to Kudus! It was Mind-blowing! It's the weirdest thing I've seen! Even when he was well out of his depth, and could easily get out of the situation by just poking it out to Kudus, he refused to and they scored. Absolutely shocking.Van Hecke good player but goes to ground and over commits a little too often for my liking.
I watched with the volume down as soon as I heard who was commentating, can only imagine how tense the crowd was until Davies scored.
Very important result. Hopefully no lingering injuries going into next week
Yeah not convinced by his defending. Needs a blocker next to him imho. Hopefully won’t get exposed against Chelsea at the weekend. He makes my blood boil every game! He's shockingly bad as a defender. If he was more mobile, he'd be better as a DM, but he's too slow for that too.
thats a lot of goals off an xG of 0.9
slowed the xGA in the second half slightly
we still have a lot of problems defensively, they were successful on half of their verticals and won 25% of crosses, thats appalling from our point of view
I thought that was Solanke’s best game in awhile, he didn’t score but actually made useful runs, got the ball and got some shots off.Now that we play a high possession game, I'd seriously consider playing Tel upfront instead of Solanke. The way we are playing we don't create chances with crosses, we played probing balls to feet which requires movement and first touch...
Actually scrap that, Tel's first touch under pressure is poor (his first touch when he's got time is actually superb), so don't think that's a good idea at all...
I think we probably just stick with Solanke for now and buy a half decent Striker in January...

The performance, especially at home, was always going to be tough we needed to get a win. The crowd wasn’t great either so quiet with 10mins left until the third went in, they needed the win as much as the players I think.
Overall a lot of good play, a lot of stupid play (van hecke unfortunately running into trouble) but I liked the tactics playing 3 CB, showed pre-planning against their tactics. A win is a win, we have played better and lost so the footballing gods owed us one here.
** side note, while I called out Van Hecke he was so brave putting his head in the way of that rocket shot from their Japanese player, so credit where it is due **
It was good to hear De Zerbi's rationale post-match for the lineup and formation2 games in a row that I haven't been super happy with the starting lineup but the result or performance has won out. Not the prettiest performance but the one that got us that vital first win. Hopefully it breeds some confidence in us because what we are lacking is a bit of decisiveness, Maddison had that today with his shot and even Marmoush for his as well. More of that please because the performances have largely been there or thereabouts.
