***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Saturday August 29th, 5.30pm, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium***

Its been two games and I think by halfway point of the season we will be wondering what all this fuss was about :)....

Yes! I hope and think so. There's a lot of quality in that team, it was on display today, but the little details are missing. That'll come!

Games Spence started or played 45 Minutes +
24/25 & 25/26
60 Games
21 Wins / 9 Draws / 30 Losses - 1.20 PPG
102 Goals Conceded - 1.70 GCPG
13 Clean Sheets - 21.67%

Games where Spence played under 45 Minutes
24/25 & 25/26
52 Games
22 Wins / 13 Draws / 17 Losses - 1.52 PPG
72 Goals Conceded - 1.38 GCPG
13 Clean Sheets - 25.00%

I think we should ignore the 24/25 season given that attacking was heavily prioritised over defence. Looking at stats using AI, for last season this is what is said about Spence. (Take it as you want to).

Tottenham Hotspur (2025–26 Premier League)

The impact of Spence on Tottenham's backline becomes clear when breaking down the team's defensive record with and without him in the league:

With Spence on the Pitch: He played 2,060 minutes, during which Spurs conceded 31 goals. This averages out to a goal conceded every 66.45 minutes.Without Spence on the Pitch: In the remaining 1,360 minutes of the campaign, Spurs conceded 30 goals (based on their total of 61 goals conceded). This averages out to a goal conceded every 45.33 minutes.

Defensive Output: Over his 30 appearances, he registered 58 clearances, 28 successful tackles, and 9 interceptions, contributing to 9 clean sheets.

I suspect if he was poor defensively Spence wouldn't have stood out to Tuchel in what was a poor season for his club or bought by Inter.

They were not the regulars.. That was Vic, Porro Van der Ven and Romero. When Danso and Kinsky came in we were more solid and even more so with Spence next to Danso on the right.
When was that? Not having a go at you, but remind me of when that happened. Spence next to Danso on the right.

My fear is that we dont gel in the next few games and start winning. The premier league is getting harder and harder with games generally decided by fine margins these days.

This is a work in progress and will take time.

Unfortunately, i fear with the last 2 seasons and the current start it could start getting toxic really soon. We need a win next week to break the cycle. If we dont you begin to wonder where the next win comes from.

The clubs about 3 weeks behind schedule fitness wise. Still managing minutes FFS.

Worst pre season in living memory.
Travelling to opposite side of the world in a world Cup summer was madness. The financial benefits doesn't outweigh the lack of preparation.
Proper preparation prevents p1ss poor performance.

There were audible boos at full time today, and the stadium was half empty by that stage too.

We need to keep calm for 10 games minimum, but the media are going to be all over us already.
