***Tottenham v Brentford OMT***

But its also a lesson having a well run club, with continuity, a plan and clear vision. They have been a steady club for a few years now.

We are the antithesis of this; new coach, new players, starting all over again for the 8th season over, deadwood/not good enough players. This wasnt going to be fixed in 2 months - we probably wont see a consistent, decent side until next year. Society these days wants instant fixes and results to everything - this isnt going to be the case here. Yes we have spent but we have also recouped. Spending big on two midfielders, one of which isnt fit to start, doesnt fix us into a top 4 team.

You simply dont take a team finishing 17th last two years and within 3months (with a world cup) make them into top 5 challengers.
Agree
But you also can’t just over react to one game
If we play like this Saturday and the week after…. Then there is a possible issue
If it’s the same after 10 games then it’s a a real issue
I don’t think it will be

The Mike Tyson quote about punches to the face and plans always comes to mind. Brentford brought aggression and that was the end of us. Bergvall trying little tricks in our defensive third that would have come off in preseason. I don't really blame him as how else will we break the press in the way the manager wants.
He could try passing the ball, unfortunately that isn't really in his skillset.

Ultimately, it was the sense of entitlement from us that bugged me the most. We started like Brentford should stand off us and just let us pass the ball around at our own leisure. Then when Brentford got into our faces we refused to work as hard as them and play with as much intensity as them. We were second to balls that we should be winning.

This is the massive cultural shift RDZ needs to address at our clubs. You can't simulate that in pre-season unfortunately but we have so many t-shirts of it happening this way over the years.

That was abject, absolutely awful.
I wasn't sure what to expect, it clicked and were really good, or we were poor and struggle with all the changes.
But I did not see that coming, even after seeing the line up which was odd imo.
Trying to console myself with the thought that we looked good in the first game of the season last year under Frank before it went belly up, who's to say it can't flip.
What worries me though is that I couldn't really see what we were trying to do.

Starting the new season with that front 3, and the only other foreward on the bench being Solanke, there was no way we were winning that game.
But to be so awful all over the pitch, looking unfit and uninterested again, beggars belief.
Yes weve spent a lot and made some good signings. The attack is still abysmall. Hope 2 or 3 of the alleged new front players come in this week to cheer us up.
Some players still need to go. Richy and Sarr will fetch a few mill and Moore going on loan. We should have sold Bergvall too.

Watching MOTD made me feel more positive.

Of the 6 games played so far 4/6 the bigger team/favourite has lost.

Arsenal won at home to a team where there is a major talent disadvantage. Everton had a starting XI where not a single player went to the World Cup.

We are still in pre season as are a handful of other teams and I think it will be that way until the first international break.

We also happened to play one of the teams that didn’t take a lot of players to the World Cup and look to be sharp already.

Brighton 4-0 up
City 1-0 down

Just watching the Elanga goal, he's pretty average.

But who in our squad winger wise has the ability and composure to pick the ball up, run and finish like that

Our forward line is tragic.

Been saying this for 4 to 5 years now. It's been bloody awful. Initially we had no quality on the right when we had Kane and Son. The we had no depth under Kane and Son and finally we had no Kane or Son.

I never expected replacements of their calibre but there must have been some in-between level between what they were and the trash heap we've been playing for thr last 3 years.

Agreed, but there is no denying that some losses feel worse than others. If you disagree then you are simply kidding yourself.
No. That's nonsense. A loss is a loss.

I feel brick whether we lose 3 nil, or 5-3 having been 3 nil up at HT (yep I was there), or a last min pen.

That is not kidding yourself, losing is losing and it fudging hurts.

What annoyed me was that the subs were very selective. Moore, Tonali, Bergvall, Gallagher and Richy were shocking in the first half. 4 of them should have been taken off at half time. If Bergvall could get hooked, then Tonali deserved it too. It's such a critical area of the pitch and there can be no passengers whether it's Gallagher, Bergvall or Tonali.

Im also wondering if from a defensive perspective whether Danso was best the CB available. At least he can defend the area. That game really highlighted the need to defend the box too.

I think for me, we have some talented wide players - doesn't mean good yet - but what we lack is any midfielder with vision or the capability to get the ball into the gaps for the wide men to attack. We have to fix moving the ball quicker.

Yesterday Van Hecke had the ball and Gray was in space and could easily slide into Moore or into midfield. Instead Van Hecke dallied on the ball and we were under pressure after he played into midfield. There is no urgency to shift the ball if they are not pressed.

I don’t thinking passing will be a problem for Van Hecke once he gets used to his team mates. It’s defending well that will be his problem..l
