Cristian Romero

Liverpool desperately need a CB… but think he has to go abroad, a PL club would be mad to sign him with the reputation he has from refs and pundits in this country. It will likely drag out all summer though as everyone knows we’re stacked at CB and want to sell.

I have a feeling his reputation will be quietly swept under the carpet if he joins the right PL club, though.

This 'Romero victimised by refs' is massively overstated - Not least because he actually does a lot of stupid challenges, but in 5 seasons in the Premier League he has been sent off 4 times, 2 of which were for 2 yellow cards. That hardly screams out some sort witch hunt for the guy.

Maybe people are getting confused as to why he's missing from the pitch so often and have decided to blame it on the refs...

I was with you until the end-of-season distraction about him being at the final game.

But I think he is good enough for a Barca-level team, and his style of play may fit better in Spain or Italy.
Barcelona play the high line of death, higher even than Ange so no he really doesn't suit them. His rash tackles whilst trying to stop counters will get him sent off multiple times in a season. They already have that with Arajuo (another very good defender), who is rash and consistently gets sent off for badly timed or rash recovery tackles. Arajuo needed up losing his place because he can't be trusted in their system, they'd be mad to then sign Romero to just amp that up.

If there is a defender than we have that suits Barcelona, it's VDV  not Romero.

They’ve not said no to the transfer fee they have said no to Romeros wages.
When have either of those factors stopped the elite clubs before? If they rate a player especially at a WC level, they will pay both the transfer and the wages.

As said, it seems they just don't rate him like that.
