Possibly but it looks like he's batting in a "f*** 'em" mode. Good luck to him.
Yeh, fair enough

As Stokes has quit, I'd call it a day for Bazball tbh and start fresh. It feels like we are in for a few rough years ahead with this current squad![]()

I’d be a bit disappointed if his reasoning is linked to being suspended for the last test.
He said the reasons can come later so let’s see. Huge loss though.
Hmmmmmmmm I absolutely love Stokes, but this all smacks of ego driven performative stuff.
He said it was always planned him to open because of what the new ball had been doing, and to go hard at the open. If memory serves Stokes had put himself up to open in previous games with the same tactic....Possibly but it looks like he's batting in a "f*** 'em" mode. Good luck to him.

Yet they moved Gay down to no.5 with other players ahead of him who were also more inclined to go hard at the ball aswell.....Sky did a report earlier, 3 times in his career...........not buying it

Fair enough mate, I'm inclined to take it at face value as he doesn't particularly strike me as ego driven to that extent - would have thought he'd want to do whatever gave England the best chance of winning his final test match tbh....Yeh, not sure that matters much, Gay strike rate in limited over cricket is huge, so he can smash the new ball to all places. With all respect, given the set up of the mid match announcement and all that surrounded it, him opening the bat for only the 4th time in 100+ tests tells me something something different than "we wanted to get on top of the new ball"

Agree with this, it was plain weird. But from what Stokes said yesterday, it was 'the team' that dictated the announcement when and how it was done rather than him (in terms of the release of the video etc)....I think the timing of the announcement says the opposite for me. Yesterday descended into a mess
