Will Lankshear

The last week had was Berba and Keane IMO, Berba equally incredible in air and feet, great partnership

Interestingly, I always thought Berba and Defoe was the better partnership. Loved Robbie, but him and Berba just got deeper and deeper and neither were poaching. With Jermain he just spent his time actually playing right up top and making those speculative runs. He was always really alive in the box.

Of course, ideally we'd have had all 3 in the team. 3 great guys and football players.

We have had skme really good loans this season, lads who have embraced the fabric of clubs and what footballs about.

I actually dont think there is a such a thing as a bad loan, its as much about finding out about what day in day out competitive football is, with that.comes pressure and adversity, so even those languishing on a bench have to learn.

For him though and Moore, its been a good year

I agree in terms of their performances but some loans do help the development of certain players in other ways, we'll get a good idea next season.

I think the footballing impact of playing lower football as in quality isnt that big a deal, i think its the introduction of turning up every day at a level where it means something to that side, to the fans that U21 football doesnt deliver. No football career is without its set backs, for me being on the bench and having to fight for your spot is everything that'll sets a player up mentally for whats to come, in fact I prefer that to the old style deals of "theh must play"

The problem is that our club doesn't present these kids with opportunities to be on the bench. The squad is always cluttered with average older players blocking their paths.

I think we've had some decent loans this year but I do wonder whether we will make these types of changes next season.

Vuskovic / Phillips / Takai for Dragusin / Davies
Abbott / Devine / Hall for Bissouma / Palhinha
Lanks / Moore for Solanke / Richi / Muani

There isn't a single one of those 1st team squad players who have pulled their weight this season.

When I say bench, I meant bench elsewhere, I think its 100% right players fight their way into others scenarios rather than it gifted because we think its right because they are Spurs youngster.

On the other part, I agree to an extent but I also think some youth are maybe not good enough and its not as simple as "just play then" instead

I agree it's a test of character but the use of so many substitutes in football has ruined so many careers of all ages, too many decent players do not get to play regularly and no matter how many medals you get sitting on your arse it doesn't compensate for not playing regularly, I'd have given all my trophies up for a couple of more seasons playing.

I get it and same, thats not the point I was making though or I am making it poorly. Mine is that a year forcing their way into a side, in their formative pro years is massive for a sense of what football is like, so when I see people moan and say "That loan is crap, they are not playing" then I think its actually a decent gauge on where the player is quality wise and also becomes a real test on what the footballing landscape really is. Much more than players just playing for the sake of it, if thats the only yardstick at 17/18/19 then send them lower in the pyramid for game time or keep them here and play them to death in the U21s.

On the positives for me, Lankshear seems to have harnessed what the actual crux of football is and has been on the end of a emotional relegation, for me thats probably given him 3 years of maturing in one season and he has seemed to have taken it like an absolute top pro. If he is good enough here, who knows, but this season means he will have a good career regardless IMO
