The *WHEN* we go down thread

I actually thought Leeds might be our best bet to get out of this but I in no way thought they'd win last night. Looking at the rest of their fixtures, you'd have to say they now have a great chance of staying up.
Same here. I was hoping we’d be at least level on points with them by the time we play them on the third last weekend. 6 points gap looks too much now. Another nightmare scenario (of many) is a draw suiting both Leeds and West Ham on the last day (they play each other) regardless of what we do v Everton.

This is a very interesting read. Basically says that we've put together a squad of athletes who aren't great passers and completely misused data in terms of our recruitment. It actually puts some meat behind the observation a lot of fans on here have made about our tinkle poor basic passing and our (in)ability to hit passes that hurt teams.

Had a quick scan through EFL rules, ticketing next season could be interesting as the £30 away ticket concession only applies in the Premier League so away supporters in EFL can be charged the same price as home supporters plus there seems to be no obligation to provide senior citizen concessions although I expect every EFL does but who knows what ENIC might do.

35.7.10 Concessionary admission prices for senior citizens and children, if available to supporters of the Home Club, must also be available on a similar basis to visiting supporters.

Cool, so we can absolutely rinse all the away fan tourists.

They’ll never pass the opportunity to visit a proper stadium.

I’m not sure if we’re bad passers or just don’t want to pass by instruction
It’s been a massive issue for some time

I think some of this is complete nonsense.

Most players, given the level they are at can pass the ball (endless videos of them doing rapid passing in training).
So it's a tactics, system, between the ears thing.

My favourite example is Bodo. 95% of their passes are not special/difficult. Just standard passing. It flows because they've learnt the system/tactics and have trust and belief in that system and each other. They haven't learnt to pass.
And I'd guess most netruals would say we have a better standard of player than them.

Yes, it's handy to have a passer that can do something special/unusual/unpredictable but it's not essential. (We probably have in Maddison and Xavi two that could fulfil that role tbh)

Tbh it's just a lazy narrative....I think it would be more accurate to suggest that we look like a team going thru a mental breakdown atm.

Apparently the most expensive ST currently in the Championship is Middlesboro' at £620 , I'm sure we can top that. :)
I'm intrigued to see what they'll do if we go down. On one hand, we're already losing £250m and there will likely be people losing their jobs so they can't afford to lose much more revenue. On the other hand, I have two season tickets that cost twice that each. Not sure I want to be paying that to watch Lincoln, Preston and Norwich.

It's a common observation, and I've seen it on here and elsewhere, that our players frequently play poor passes. Ones that might reach their target but do so either behind the target or that leaves the target having to work to get the ball under control. I've seen it myself even if I do find myself saying, "there is something not right here, these are professional footballers. Surely they can pass the ball 10 yards".

To have only 2 players in the top 150 passers in the league, both of them centre backs, would lend weight to the theory being put forward.

Whether it's down to confidence/crisis of confidence or just bad technique is an interesting argument.

It's going to be a massive headache for those on high priced ST's and even though prices have been frozen, going on previous history ENIC ticket pricing policy has been very poor . The only answer to cutting ticket prices is to cut costs, something like 45% of revenue is the wage bill so in any other business that's where the bosses would start making cuts.
Fortunately as an old git I have a concession ST priced at £643 for next season at PL price so for 23 home matches if it stays at that price it works out at £28 per match which is reasonable even to watch Lincoln City.
I do not see us escaping this , we can't score so how can we win games. The only encouraging thing and he isn't going to score is that Bentancur is back in training , he might steady the ship in midfield but the other midfielders have got to get into the box more.

It's totally evident to me and its a technical thing. Look at the other end of the scale. Why do you think David Silva, KDB, Fabregas were all so good at keeping the ball. If you drew up a big scale of players in a list (real life FIFA ratings out of 100 for example) then I can definitely see many of our attacking players low down.

It also takes 3 attributes to keep the ball moving well. Good passing, good touch and good movement. I think many of our attackers would be low down on all 3. Unfortunately our best ones are all out injured.

There will be natural attrition on the wage front. Selling 4 or 5 of our best earners and saving the wages should plug the £250m gap (+ Parachute payment).
