Wasn't aware of the wages thing being that different to top 5 clubs. Assumed we must have paid the going rate to keep Kane and Son so long. If that's the case, it doesn't matter who we bring in.

I'm pretty sure Wenger decided they couldn't compete with Man U and Chelsea on transfers and wages, so they decided to just compete on wages. We need to rear up our players contracts and replace with the same, but with winning incentives that put their wages on a par with other clubs.

I think the trophy done more for his reputation than seeing out a poor league season so i don't see that as a sacrifice on his part - given his always win comments I'd imagine it would have been his choice anyway. If (big if) we finished lower mid table rather than 17th he may have come through the summer but given the players missing and that the injuries have continued we'd have likely not improved.
What I mean is he knew his job was for the chop when he elected to back the EL horse, and let the league go.

He put the trophy ahead of his job.

Kane and Sonny were on big bonuses if I remember rightly. So the basic wage was £200k per week for Kane but with bonuses turned into around £300k or similar a week.

Look at me casually discussing a person earning £1.2m a month for kicking a bag of air round a field. Madness.

I believe we could have both. My frustration is that he let the league go to the extent that he did. If we'd finished 12th and won the Europa League he stays on and who knows what the squad could go on to achieve?

I guess the "never gonna know" moment here is that if he had given the team more emphasis on the league we might not have got to the final of the EL.

Your right its madness, but if the club tells the fans they are going to challenge on all fronts, that includes them paying the silly wages.

Absolutely. But I look at Everton & Leicester in January, whilst in the Europa League League Phase (and yes right in the middle of the massive injury crisis) as 4/6 huge points dropped. Then Bournemouth/Forest (H) and Wolves/Fulham/West Ham (A) as five other really good chances to get some points.

It might not have made too much of a difference in final places (we were 10 points off Everton in 13th, 15 off Palace in 12th) but it might have lifted the doom and gloom a bit.

Sorry Dubai but this is rose tinted mate.

Dembele was bossing it in midfield for Fulham, the reason we signed him was that game vs United when he dominated their midfield. Kane was brought through by Sherwood and was already showing his potential replacing Soldaldo. Alli performed from day 1 so that’s on MK not Poch. Eriksen was smashing it for Ajax etc…

The only one I can genuinely say he improved was Sonny, but even that is caveated as his performance in Germany suggested it was always there and just needed to adapt to the PL .

Now it’s not Pochs fault we pretty much had a pre-built core prior to his arrival, he still had to recognise their potential and play them but to think of “Poch” players we have to think more Foyth/Ndombele/Lo Celso etc from a purchase perspective. Part of me want to bring Poch back with this team which is the complete opposite of the position last time just to see if he is really magic or not, but I don’t like it when the narrative of that 2016 team is changed to Poch brought/improved all these players and without him our squad was mid table only

Rose was also player of the year at sunderland. Fans were tinkled off with him regarding his tweet as he didn't seem happy to be coming back to sit on the bench.

Hmmmm seems like the opposite?

Knew he was getting the chop, Trophy is more likely to get him another job in the PL that his league performances wouldn't have.

I'm not sure it was a selfless act.
Doubt very much that it was selfless. But what he wanted and we (most of us) wanted was aligned.

Most managers will be self serving and self interested, obviously.

Like Frank was self serving and imo probably desperate. Trying to win the next game, overplaying Porro, Bentancur, Kudus, playing our strongest team in the CL despite the injuries and fatigue and looming relegation struggle.

Remind you of anyone?

Sounds suitable to me.

Thrilling and unmissable? Yes please.
Terzic, Rose, or Schmidt for me. Give him, and the players, avoiding relegation incentives. Depending on how it goes, take a view on bringing in Poch after the WC.

Come the summer, this club really needs to start paying the going wage for success.

I don't disagree with you.

My issue is it's being made out as giving up his job for us.

Next perm manager looks like it will be De Zerbi but will it be before or after Ze Derbi
I know he's pointed to as a bit of a nutter/dingdongead. Another Conte type figure. Which could easily be a bad thing, particularly longer term. But to me seems to have a pretty good track record of instilling a style of play quickly (we need that), has PL experience and experience managing in difficult circumstances.

Wouldn't be on my list of attractive targets permanently come the summer, but if the options now are him, Mason, Redknapp etc i can't see better options than him.

Would love Poch or Alonso. I don't think we have a bad squad. I know this might be unpopular, but you don't get to win the EL and finish 4th in the UCL league phase with a bad squad. Nearly added the European Supercup to our trophy cabinet too. Some things need to click for them to work in the league and Ange and Frank didn't manage to do that. Ange did it in the first season, we finished 5th without Kane and very close to 4th. So the potential is there. I also think the summer signings weren't that bad, I mean I would still take Xavi S. over Eze at this point. Palhinha has definitely been a plus. Kudus has started the season well but his performances fell as the season progressed. We just need to find the coach that can get them to click and maximize our strengths.
