AVB didn’t improve on Redknapp (we went from 4th to 5th). (State of the decision makers at this club sacking Redknapp after going 4th, 5th, 4th)

Appreciate the correction.
It was a bizarre thing for Redknapp; as we know we got Europa when it should've been CL. I always felt that without the trial and England rubbish we'd have pushed for the title that year.
We at least made Europe again with AVB.
 
Can't fault the effort and i thought Muani was unlucky that wasn't his first goal outside of CL - lovely finish.

There are issues with this team, but i think people are going overboard on this particular result: Villa are third and are/were just better than us.

It's the defeats to other teams like Bournemouth (or GHod forbid, West Ham:eek:) that are the worrying bits. Villa are third....
 
Also, i hadn't checked the subs bench listing....when i saw Solanke coming on i nearly fell off my chair!
I even had earlier said to my friend that it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't see either him, Maddison or Kulusevski again this season....lol...

He may have been your typical Del Boy 'wheeler dealer' but I loved it when he was Spurs boss. It was a joy coming to the Lane, up there with some of the Jol Days and Pochettino reign (especially those 2 seasons when we arguably the best footballing team in the country)

I'm confused - you mentioned Ronald Koeman and Roberto Martinez in a list of top managers... :)

Out of that list, I'd say only Ancellotti is truly top bracket. Tuchel and Pochettino have shown themselves to be good (although have had their failures). Deschamps is a very good international manager, but his record as a club manager is mixed and he showed a tendency to fall out with club's hiearachies.

For me I still put the blame firmly with the English FA, they gave him the 'come-on' for the England job and he took his eye off the ball.

I totally believe they never had any intention of giving him the job and it was always going to Woy. If they had told him for the start he could have got on with the Tottenham and I am convinced we would have p#ssed 3rd place and not had to worry about Chelsea winning the CL table. (Tbh we still got close IIRC didnt we draw at Villa next to last game which ultimately cost us, plus the West Brom throwing 2 in the net v Arsenal on the last day?? - not bitter, honest)

I think this is a really interesting point. And to be fair to Frank, the foundations he has been left aren't 'appropraite' or strong. Ange did setup a more attacking play, probably improved passing a little bit. But without all those attackers from his tenure in the side, Frank didn't even have that as a foundation to take forward. Instead he's rebuilding the defensive side, and starting from scratch in attack with a new set of players.

All these managers at least passed on a bit of a defensive foundation to the next incumbant. And whilst Frank might not work out long term, at least you know he's doing good work refining our foundations and helping players like Tel and Odobert find their feet. As we can see at Brentford, he will leave the club in a much better state than he found it. And given time I think he can do a lot more than that too.

Best football I've seen Spurs play was under Harry. Give him a great striker and we seriously, seriously challenge for the league.

Problem is football has changed so much since then, virtually every team play to a system which is designed not to lose rather than score goals. The game continually stops for various reasons and cheating in all forms has become an acceptable tactic.
