Richarlison

Looked decent against Palace as some of his build-up play was actually decent. Obviously had an assist, but obviously can't stay onsides ever...
Put it like this. RKM being subbed and Richarlison staying on was a pretty obvious sub. Did well. Still very limited service all in all, until the game really opened up. But did well with what he got.

we need to sell him fast

but which club would want a CF that is weak, can't hold up the ball and can't stay onside?

Edit - Wild timing to post such banal views after that game as well. I missed the first 30 (tough ask to convince the missus when on holiday in Malta) but the fella looked pretty good all round, the 2nd disallowed one was a close call. Goal involvements are handy and it shouldn't have to be explained why, when coupled with the workrate and actual availability suddenly Richy has become quite important.

If you just don't like his face or haircut just admit it, but at the minute it's like moaning about how uncomfortable seatbelts are just after a car crash; we need him at the minute, possibly due to Mauni not being at full fitness but it's still the case, Frank didn't leave him on by accident against Palace.

why do you get upset with my personal views?

you are going to bet that we can get to top 5 with richarlison in front of goal?

can you accept that while he is our top scorer, he can be upgraded and the team can do better?

or are you the one in love with his face or haircut

as the player highest up the pitch, richy needs to help the team do better in hold up play and creating chances for others

But we are very poor at getting the ball to our CF. He can’t touch the ball in the box if he isn’t getting it there. Plus, he has never been a hold-up striker. FWIW, the way we played against Palace left him having to do significant defensive work, which he did very well. He assisted Gray, would’ve had another for the clever header back into Odobert’s path when Wilson hit the post, and was unlucky with the offsides.

he got plenty of touches in the palace game. granted he is improving, he is just weak when another player is on him.
if he can't shield, he needs to be smart and move to get into space. keep moving and in across and behind his marker etc.
he is lazy and happy to wait for the perfect ball and if it isn't he isn't willing to exert 100% effort.
look at his headers - he almost never outjumps his market. in fact he almost never gets 30cm off the ground, he is happy backing into the player and letting them head the ball.

he's good pretty decent stats and thats why i say sell him quick, so we can recoup maximum value and reinvest in stronger and more mobile CFs.
i will be so happy if another epl club buys him preferably a top 8 club!

Despite not managing to stay onside which is majorly annoying, he has not been too tragic this season all in all
True.
And the nature of his game means that he needs to play very close to that line of being offside to get that marginal gain over defenders, outstrip them by a few centimetres to reach a ball just before them. It's an inherent risk of that style of play and, unfortunately, such players are now also dealing with technology that identifies when they move a microsecond too soon or are just a centimetre past the tolerance.

Despite the 'amusing' memes I saw of Richarlison reading a Dummy's guide to the offside rule, it's not something I really think he needs to change. Being marginally (and I stress it must be marginal) caught offside is simply going to happen when playing that way.

We wouldn't get top 5 at the moment even with Harry Kane in for Richarlison!

Not sure how much of it is on Richarlison, from what I've seen, other than some long balls from the keeper and pumping into the opposition's box any free kick from around the halfway line, Frank's tactics see us avoiding the middle of the pitch when progressing the ball forwards, instead having us play in a horse shoe kind of shape around the defence and up the sides.

What's the weather like? I'd like to take a week away. Malta is about as far as I like to fly.

This, get the ball to Richi in the box, he thrives on chaos, does his best work there.

Don't bang the ball to him 30 yards out with his back to goal under pressure from defenders (not his game).

He could be a good #2 with the ability to rotate with LW.

Can he be upgraded? yes, all but the top 10 players in the world can.

The issue is you can upgrade on him with the top 50 players in the world.

ok (your opinion) but until we actually get our fingers out and buy that upgrade, why try to play him in a way that doesn't leverage his limited strengths?
Probably because we just don’t have the squad to justify that kind of adjustment. When he’s played up front with Muani it’s looked decent, sure — but then we completely lose any natural play down the left-hand side. It ends up being a net negative over the full 90 minutes.

Any time you reshape a system just to mask the weaknesses of a lower-quality player, you’re basically stealing from Peter to pay Paul. You fix one issue and create two new ones elsewhere. At that point the overall structure suffers more than it benefits.

I think we are just arguing across a concept we agree with but it's the execution.

If Frank can't adjust enough to get Tel, Johnson, Richi, etc. to have an impact in the interim, he isn't going to be here for their replacements. And my concern is Frank was sold as a pragmatic manager who did adjust, if all of a sudden it's the players aren't suited to him? wtf?

Where we disagree is that I don't believe that is a top quality or even a particularly good crop of attacking players, its below average to be frank. For me a pragmatic coach cuts his losses early and doesn't waste his time trying to get blood from a stone.
