Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Actually it was Britain and France fudging around with it after WW1 that caused all the problems. Colonialism creates decades and centuries of trauma. Just some respect and application of self-determination could solve everything. Same with the Kurds

The region has been invaded and colonised countless times over the centuries. It’s far more complex than you are making it out to be. What Israel is doing now and has been doing for nearly 2 years is deplorable but the region has been a mess even before Britain had control of it. Colonialism and slavery has been practiced by almost every race at some point throughout history.

Wasn't even true colonialism that resulted in Britain controlling Palestine. The Ottoman Empire attacked Russia and declared alignment with Germany and Austria-Hungary. The defeat of the central powers necessitated the invasion and occupation of their territories and the British ended up taking and holding Palestine as a military necessity not for the purpose of colonisation.

Also even the Israelis now hate Netty......they realise, rightfully.....that's he is an equal parts problem and making everyone's life, not just Palestinians, much more dangerous

That’s quite a sweeping generalisation. But I understand he has polarised people more so in the current climate.

A country that’s divided down the middle, with people on either side refusing to listen to each other’s points, while becoming more entrenched in their own views?

It’s impossible for anyone in the UK or the US to understand what that must feel like.

Sigh. It's all so easy isn't it. 'Waste of oxygen' this and 'dingdong' that. So much anger; I'd love to see some positive ideas as to how things can change.

Until then, here's a song for you to wrap your ears around. Enjoy it amigo...

You've just ruined that song for me. :(

No anger. You do know you can make a comment with emotions like anger?

Positive ideas? Let me think …

Where is the evidence of incompetence in Parliament or on local councils? They are back bench MPs in Parliament. There are only 4 of them (5 now with Kruger). They don't have any competence other than raising issues on behalf of constituents. They have only just gained control of councils for the first time. Hardly time to know if they are more competently run or not.
Admittedly a biased source but:

Rupert Lowe had to stand down due to bullying

Mcmurdoch had to stand down due to covid benefit fraud and should have had to stand down for lying about his conviction for beating his girlfriend

Sarah Pochin is a total macaron as is 30p Lee. And now they’ve added Nadine Dorris to their leading party figures, a woman whose self regard is matched only by her complete and utter incompetence

So getting rid of people quickly and decisively when sh*t comes out about them is a sign of competence wouldn't you say? Compared to the other parties. E.g. Reyner hasn't had the whip withdrawn has she? Neither has Tulip Siddique. I do believe McMurdoch has been exonerated on the points raised hasn't he subsequently although Reform and he have agreed he will not be readmitted to the party at this time.

My point is competency has to be divorced from "what do i think about this person?" Reform have no power in Parliament and only a few months worth of power in local government. FYI on local government every council has an elected body and an executive body that is unelected. The elected body decides on budgets and policy but otherwise the day to day implementation and running is performed by the council's unelected senior management.

Saying that, Reform do need to professionalise further and include better vetting of candidates although that has been acknowledged by Farage himself. One of his core stated aims of 2025 was to professionalise and democratise the party.

Not at all

Im a Jew who has family in the homeland and they are hugely split.

What's more likely is people here have picked a side, rather than having a humanitarian view that there is equal parts evil on both sides and also equal part innocent people who are being pulled through the crud

Hamas are clams....Netty is a clam....how it's solved is complicated, but I stand by that simple statement

Fair enough if that’s your view.

You don't think the masses of people on each side of the divide are equally innocent in this?

That's not me putting words in mouth, I'm just genuinely interested in what the alternative view is

I’m in San Sebastián at the moment and have noticed hundreds of Palestine flags along with a protest. Same sitch in Bilbao. I guess it hits them more close to home because the Basques want independence themselves from Spain.

It was a fudging nightmare as well. Attacked by all sides.

Very well put. It’s a complicated issue with both sides believing they have a genuine claim to call the land theirs. I don’t think there’s any chance of this conflict being solved whilst Trump is in charge.
