As usual, people's agendas passing judgement before a balls been kicked.
It will be interesting for sure. So many times before I've seen various assumptions about managers being made with the masses announcing what a disastrous appointment it is and they've been proven wrong. Who knows if this will be one such time, will certainly be curious to see how gung ho he is with a squad not as strong as ours and European football to contend with too - but whatever happens good luck to him....

Question for everyone on Ange.

He said today he knew he was gone before the cup final, yet on the day of the parade he launched into his "season 3 is better than season 2" speech. If he knew that he was a goner why oh why did he say something like that which just made him look daft when he was asked a few days later?

Because he didn't want to make it easy for Daniel.

Probably had an inkling that he ws on his way out, which in hindsight becomes more pronounced given as that's how it played out and then after the cup win at the parade he was probably on a high and swept up in the moment

Two reasons IMO

1) to make absolutely sure that he was 'pushed' and not subject to a 'parting' which might've impacted his pay-off
2) to make absolutely sure he enjoyed the moments of victory to their fullest and make sure fans knew he wanted to stay

It was pretty clear he knew time was going to be called. It's why he got away with the incredibly ballsy decision to put every ounce of egg in one fragile basket and sack-off the league; I don't believe there's ever been a time in football where that opportunity was so available. We were never getting relegated, he knew his pony was ridden, yet there it was, one remaining all-or-nothing hope. In retrospect, it is an even more remarkable achievement IMO...

Agreed on the achievement.

Also, it’s just kinda funny isn’t it? To make that season 3 comment knowing he’s on the way out. He’s had to deal with months of speculation that he’s going to lose his job. So it’s a humorous shot back at a moment of maximum safety because he’s just delivered what they didn’t think was possible,

Also makes sense as to why Paul Coyte I thought was less than kind to Ange on a podcast he appeared on. Ange took the mic out of his hands, and it could be argued ‘went into business for himself’ even though he knew he was going to be sacked. And I don’t begrudge him for one second for enjoying that moment to its fullest.

It's turning into a bit of theme for spurs in that it won't get the full recognition that it's due, but EL win was very, very important.
It's given this squad a taste of what they can achieve, what it takes to win and how addictive that feeling can be.
The win has energised the club at all levels and led to us being serious about pushing on.
It's fairly obvious now that levys comments about we want to win the PL and CL that we're so out of character we're coming from above.
Ange had to go, it was the correct decision, but he's the feather that tipped the scales.
Maybe that decision to ignore the league and win a cup is what propelled the changes.

Maybe he's fibbing

To make sure he got his full payoff when he was sacked, so that no-one in the Spurs hierarchy could claim he left 'by mutual consent' or similar..

The EL was an amazing achievement from the very top to the very bottom of our football club. Ange was very focused and steered the ship well for that cup campaign.

I do think we are missing something absolutely basic here though in the league campaign. Ange still had 11 players that (on paper) were better than most of the teams we played in the league for the last 2-3 months of the season. He was incapable of organising and motivating them to become a unit that could win a football match. We were out the other side of the injury crisis and Ange refused to set them up in a way that could win games. We were neither the defensively disciplined counter attacking team that prevailed in the EL or the high press "Angeball" team that had showed so much promise early season. We were just 11 players randomly thrown onto the pitch without a plan and a manager that didn't seem to care about league results.

Ange got absolutely no sympathy from me when his professionalism dropped in the league. Also, his pressers were bordering on embarrassing.

They couldn't avoid paying him what he was due just by "claiming" he left by mutual consent.

We have seen wrangles many times over payoffs to managers when they leave a job. If a manager leaves 'by mutual consent' he gets less money than if he is sacked and a club can easily put that 'version' of events out there first when it suits (hence the legal wrangles afterwards if a coach disputes it).

See @thfcsteff earlier reply that dovetails with my view on this too
