Daniel Levy - Former Chairman

Just for clarity here, in what ways do you mean when you say "we have done better" than Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd?

I don't think we have done better than Arsenal, Liverpool or Man United (United yes in last couple of years but for balance no)

My point is, If you look at the chart of those who have squandered money, we have done more than everyone bar Chelsea, Emirates Marketing Project (who are doped still) and United.

Everyone else has done their money, some massively to the point of bail outs like Villa and Everton

So my point is, that maybe our success on the pitch can be tracked and traced on that chart, which was to counter the idea only shareholders would be happy with it

Again just for clarity: we have done more what? Squandered more money?

Ultimately I think Levy was a victim of three things:

A) many people somehow not understanding that building a £1bn stadium means you have less money to spend on players.

B) many people ignoring the fact that since we’ve built the stadium, we’ve spent a LOT of money on players.

C) his own success - being compared to the ‘big five’ just because we managed to get closer to them under his reign than any other club has come close to. We’ve had more success on the pitch than every single one of those other clubs, which is who we should be compared to.

D) people not having an idea of how nuanced and how many moving parts there are to transfers, literally every club has their issues with it, globally, but the idea its all Tottenham and all Levy is an inflated lie given what we spend and how many transfers we actually make.

Oh ok. What have we done more in footballing terms exactly?
Sorry but i'm trying to really understand what you mean by this

We just won the European Cup and have been in the business ends of the CL

Thats more than Everton, Villa and the raft of clubs at that end of the chart in terms of spending that was shown..........

Villa and Everton haven't won a trophy for longer than we hadn't before the EC that and have spent alot more money trying to do it.

Ok fair enough.

No sure i would include Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd amongst that list? Or have i misinterpreted what you were originally saying?

Redknapps interview on Talksport was surprisingly balanced

Harry has always been very positive and balanced about the club especially given how he departed. Always spoke well of Levy as he did there.

Jamie seems to have a real problem with the club and Levy. Always assumed it went back to his playing days because he was sort of bundled out the door mid season if I recall correctly.

In footballing terms look where we were in the 20 years before he took over to where we are now.

20 years ago we were finishing 8th/9th. Last season we finished 17th...

A bit harsh i know. Off the field infrastructure we have certainly improved and are listed amongst Delloite lists etc and that is certainly down to Levy.

Not the biggest Levi fan or hated him either. He was great at some things and others not so good … not enjoying the current Lewis/ Ennis narrative getting spouted… practically throwing him under the bus

That’s fine and I’ve acknowledged many times that Levy did a lot of great things for the club but the poster said “he couldn’t think of a club who has been more successful without cheating”. He didn’t caveat it by singling out clubs who were already bigger than us. Liverpool actually went through a malaise in the 90s and 2010s by their standards. You can say Levy has done a very good job, that he was one of the best chairman in the league, but hyperbolic statements like no one has done better without cheating is just silly.
I don't think that has to be caveated and it was pretty obvious that people aren't saying we've been more successful than Real Madrid on results, league position and trophies over the last 25 years. The starting point is what Levy is being evaluated based on.

What I'm interested to know is the following:

- Was Daniel and ENIC at odds on the future strategy of the club with Tavistock and the Joe Lewis camp in any way? Was it just time to step down for him personally or was there another driving force that led to the decision? All those ambitious statements Levy made seemed very out of character. Should we read more into them now we know he was in the departure lounge himself?

- Put the clues together and you will see that Charrington is based in New Providence, Bahamas and a joint owner with the Tavistock Group for the Albany Resort. He is a known face to the Lewis family. What's his charter for taking this position? Is it to run it, to sell it outright or to find more investment, even buying ENIC out?

- If we do go down the path of selling the club, will the Tavistock/ENIC valuation generate interest? From the outside, it's always felt like it's never going to be an easy sale.

- What does all of this mean for the short and mid term? That transfer debt continues to shoot up on top of the stadium and other debts. Fans seem to believe we should spend more and more. Is that even achievable?
