Feeling very 'flat' for the new season

I too am feeling flat not about Spurs or the new season but football in general. I just don't find myself caring when the next game is and who it is between or against. No idea why. Maybe it was the Olympics? GHod knows.

Apart from the 2 Spurs games i have yet to watch a single minute of any other football either live or televised this season.

Save the £50 ticket price & stay at home.

You might disagree with them, but they are the people passionate enough to make their voice heard. It'll get pretty dull if the prawn sandwich phalanx take over. No booing, but no singing either... No passion at all.

Oh, and I'm a stay homer by the way. I've refused to buy a ticket to a first team match since last summers fiasco. I'm actually planning on spending my time with the 1882 mob instead.

I watched El Classico and Southampton/City and that's about it really. Usually, I'd of been quite annoyed with drawing 1-1 at home to West Brom and would have vented my anger but afterwards I just said to myself it's just a game really and we are 2 games in, was strange.

You call them passionate, i call them miserable pricks.

As for the 1882 thing, i will see you there! Block 15 massive.......

Good brick mate. I'm away for the Barca game :( So not sure when the next one is coming up? I intend on being as regular as I can with it though.

I am quite looking forward to it even though i will probably be the oldest Yid there be a considerable margin!
So fed up with the gradual but inexorable decline in atmosphere at the Lane for 90% of EPL games in recent seasons.

The only time I've walked out of a game early was actually because of the fans. I was in the shelf upper against Villa and it was quiet from about 20 mins in. Any time I piped up I felt like an idiot as literally nobody joined in. It was the worst game of football I've ever witnessed as a fan, not even the Park Lane was interested and Villa put us to shame on the pitch and in the stands. Not good.

Sacking Redknapp was a stupid decision. The reason your feeling flat is probably because it seems like Juande Ramos all over again. We're losing some of our best players and failing to replace them. We're now much shorter in deffence, we're probably going to send out Huddlestone on loan and sell Van Der Vaart. Aswell as that we only have Adebyaor, Defoe and Kane as strikers.

Good to have you back Craig. I agree by the way.

I think deep down that's a fear most people have, that AVB was indeed out of his depth and largely incompetent during his time at Chelsea. But that's exactly the reason why HR shouldn't be brought up as a stick to bash him with. Rightly or wrongly, AVB was appointed at Spurs. All of us want him to succeed, that's without doubt. You included. So giving him a bit of faith is the best way (and, indeed, the only way for us fans) to maximise the chances of this happening. That can't be done if HR's shadow looms over him at every turn.
Perhaps people are being too hasty in dismissing Redknapp. But that's only because they want AVB to succeed. They want to back him because they're scared that, if they don't, it'll end up like Chelsea all over again. Ergo, they try to forget HR's era and look forward to AVB's one. It's not erasing his role from our history, it's giving AVB a fresh start free from the influence of his predecessor.

I sincerely hope that's the case, anyway. And I do think it is.

But that is kind of the point mate. It isn't AVB's fault what happened with the previous manager and the circumstances in which he was appointed, but the fact is, we've sacked our most successful manager in a long time and replaced him with somebody who is unproven in England.

If Levy had replaced Redknapp with say Mourinho (never would have happened btw) or Ancellotti, then I think most Spurs fans would have understood that decision and got behind it, even if some still disagreed as the respective records of those managers are excellent.

Gentle reminder then. This thread is supposed to be about why some fans are feeling flat. Therefore, people are going to rake over the coals.

Might be interesting to do a poll, If you are feeling flat, which of these is the main reason ?

  • Redknapp should never have been sacked
  • AVB is the wrong replacement
  • Bitter the way Chelsea freaked us out of the CL

Doubtless a mixture of all three for most, but Redknapp's sacking is my nemesis.

Combination of the three, but the Chelsea winning the CL and Emirates Marketing Project winning the titles in the manner that they won them in just leaves me feeling apathetic about English football.

At the risk of derailing this thread what would you put the lack of atmosphere down to? A combination of factors I imagine, but what would the main ones be.

As an abroad'r I only get to the lane once a season and get an absolute buzz walking up the steps every time I do. I also have a 100% record. Never seen us loose (in person).

A couple of things.
Expectation levels. When we were brick we expected to lose more often than not so a win was an added bonus. Fans that have come to Spurs more recently have been a bit spoiled by comparison & therefore expect to win & when we don't they are disappointed. The atmospher at home games of most of the regular CL teams has deteriorated at an even faster pace than ours for the same reason.

The feeling of belonging. For many of us older Yids we actually felt like part of the club but fans now are customers &, for the most part, merely a revenue stream for the club. When fans are paying £40-£80 a ticket they (probably rightly) want something in return. We used to walk up on the day & pay 50p or a £1.

And as much as some might not want to hear it, the 'edge' or 'needle' that games had back in the 'bad old days' helped to generate atmosphere for whatever reason.

nice to see you embrace the "lets move on" ethic.

Keep fabricating nails for Harry's coffin, it won't make him any more dead, but it obviously makes you feel better

I were merely replying to Spur of the moment's post and his willingness to trade of Harry's big gob for the success .

As for the "lets move on" ethic , its not me that is responding to numerous posts on this thread regarding, Harry. A thread that is about why the beginning of season feels flat. Many have indicated they feel this way, partially due to Harry's sacking, which I can understand. I've also aired my reasons and one reason why I feel flat about the beginning of this season and in football generally , is that our previous manager with his constant inane dribble over the previous seasons has taken its toll on me . Give me time and I will recover, hopefully AVB & the boys with some wins will help in my recuperation .

Strange how you didnt extend that sentiment towards Modric though

Well I did air my annoyance with Modric , Addybayor and Levy in the Saudi Sportswashing Machine OMT thread ..Yep you're right I should've written a few words here too. I guess I'm a forgetful badass:~

20% Rednapp shouldn't have been sacked
80% AVB is the wrong replacement

Can't blame Chelsea for not being in CL, that's all our doing. We should have had 3rd place sawn up with a couple of games to spare.
My biggest complaint is the time it took to decide to get rid of Harry meaning we missed out on whole host of better managers than AVB.

I agree, the speed at which people get used to and expect success is alarming. The Lane was jumping the season the Jol took us back into Europe and the following season. The Champions League season was fun but other than that going to the Lane has been pretty flat since we've been good again.

I have to say that is interesting, and disappointing too. I was at Old Trafford a few years back and the place was damn quiet with 70k in attendance. Maybe the 'slab of yid' they have planned for the new stadium would help bring some of the atmosphere back. I seem to remember reading on the fighting**** that they had petitioned the club to get the drum back but were not successful.

Anybody ever read Vertigo by Jim Crace. Be meaning to but just haven't found the time yet.

Remember how flat it felt after the Man Ciity 5-1 drubbing last season coming shortly after our second-half standard capitulation against Manure 6 ays earlier?

Or perhaps after the 0-3 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in August 1998 (Andy Hinchcliffe free-kick anyone??)

I bet any current feeling pales compared to those times..

i'm not flat anymore - top class players flying in the door left and right, adebayor, dembele, Lloris perhaps, vertonghen - the team is coming together nicely. we all liked the organised way we set out and what we put on offer wasn't that bad at all, it just didn't hit the result.

things are just about to pick up, starting at norwich.
