U23s, Academy and Loanees

Abbott and Donley appear good moves on the face of it; they got regular first team football to acclimatise to the physical side of men's football, and now they step up a division. Lankshear, on the face of it, is another wasted year of development sitting on the bench. If he'd had regular first team football last season, in League 1 or 2, this would now appear a good move.

The way some were talking on here he was going to be the next one stepping up to the first team. 19 and going on loan to league 2 doesn’t feel me with confidence that he is going to make it here.
If he can manage regular football in league 2 at 19 then that would indicate he is a good player.

He's good enough to grab their starting shirt. The issue is more, like Veliz last season, if the team are mega brick in general, he'll struggle to get any ball. Im surprised he's not going back to United
I'm not at all surprised he isn't going back to Sheffield. He would be very unlikely to play regular first team football for them.

Personally I think Championship football is still a level too high for Lankshear and a league 1 loan with regular playing time would've been better. I hope he proves me wrong though.

From 2024, clubs will be restricted to six players loaned in and six loaned out at one time. Under 21s and club-trained players will be exempt.

It stays at 6 out at least from now on.

Let me understand this better. Last season Chelsea had 6 in the EFL, 2 in the PL and another 4 overseas.

What is the quota in each box or does it even matter?

PL to PL
PL to EFL
PL to Championship

From what I remember, and this could be wrong. Basic:

6 out that are over 21 and not club trained
As many as you want under 21 or club trained
