always a worry
if actually go for Hayden Hackney now if I was us
Older tab Wharton but still young. Tonnes of experience and a ball playing midfielder who has learned from a master in that role
I don’t think Hackney is anywhere near as good as Wharton. I don’t see him becoming a top level player, perhaps a mid table PL player or rotation option for a 6th to 8th type team. Gray has a much higher ceiling.

I do think a proper DM for now could be transformational for us. If, for example, we threw £350k a week at Kimmmich on a 4 year deal that could be the best £70m we ever spent. Of course I doubt he would consider joining us but I’d be giving it a try.

Samuele Ricci is probably the best not too expensive, youngish but ready now player we could attract.

Really would elevate us, if only we could just loosen the wage structure for one or two real difference makers it would make a world of difference especially in the middle of the pitch....

It would be a big risk bringing in an over 30 into a high tempo role, who has never experienced the pace of the EPL. It could go all Casemiro

What do you think of Branthwaite? He's been linked a couple of times recently
He reminds me a lot of Michael Dawson.

I remember it being talked about about how he and Guehi might be able to recreate the King-Dawson partnership dynamic for England, i.e. Branthwaite the aggressive front footed one, Guehi the quicker covering one. Its Romero-vdV too i guess.

I thought Branthwaite was supposed to be lightening quick!?

There is a player there
Would be interesting to see him play a level up in a more footballing side
Fee would be huge

I've just noticed how Everton's season transformed since Branthwaite became clear of the injuries in about the November time. He barely played before. I was never a massive Dawson fan as a footballer. Still love the personality and character though, just like Davies. Dawson was also always available for selection unlike all those "better" players that he shared squads with over the years.

I have a feeling Branthwaite has a higher ceiling than Guehi and if Romero left he'd be my choice as a replacement. At 6'5" he also offers something different in both boxes. We've missed that for a few seasons and Romero is no more than solid in the air. I don't think he'll be John Stones levels of ability though with the ball at his feet. Stones can be a Rio or Ledley at times, but has a mistake in him. With Jarrod, he's a defender first. He's supposed to be a decent passer though.

I don't think we will be bidding though unless Romero flies the nest.
