Just saw they've offered mbuemo £250k a week. He's on £50k.
Not quite as much as sancho £350k and casamero £400k.
But still too much. Give him £125k. Then improve based on performances. Give the player an incentive to play well. Not retire.
In which case he'd probably take the offer of £250,000 from elsewhere.

Cunha seems a bit of a gamble tbh read a bit recently regarding how he is a bit of a maverick/doesn't like to play to a plan, also saw something about how he spends more time walking than any other player in the league 😂 - could be the next Cantona or could be a bad apple (and i say that as someone that wanted him here previously)

Also read that Almorin doesn't play with wingers, more so 2 x no.10 behind the strikers so that pulls in to question Mbuemo for them
We won't know how good our existing players are until we ship in a decent manager, and that's why I believe Ange needs to go NOW

I think United will do well next season. With no Europe, they will have plenty of time on the training pitch. If the system needs altered then I'm sure he'll have the space in which to do it.

What offer from elsewhere?

You think anyone offered casemiro £400k a week and a transfer fee of £60m or whatever it was?

Utd are competing with the saudis on transfers financially. Not on other things.

I agree with that. I believe the manager is half decent, and they will strengthen during the summer. We on the other hand will buy a few kids on the last day of the transfer season, then wait ten games to sack Ange. It's written

George Graham
I don't know about the majority of the fan base wanting Graham sacked. I was in my teens at this point and memory was hazy.

Also in the absence of social media you had some fan forums on the Internet but they were in their infancy and forum memberships were generally very small compared to these days. So was far more difficult to gauge opinion of vast sway of fan base.

All I can go on is that the issue with Graham was primarily his Arsenal legend status and a perception of the way he played football.

But he did significantly improve the team, bringing in a double pivot DM system that did allow Ginola and Anderton to roam around and we did climb the table. He did start to receive positive fan receptions. (Partly tongue in cheek) we refused to sing his name so we sang "man in a raincoats blue and white army" which was a clear sign of warming to the work he was doing and the league cup win cemented this.

The next summer we signed the long-awaited Sheringham replacement in Rebrov but that was significantly soured by the sale of Ginola. I don't think Graham recovered from this because while he was probably right about Ginola (who was 33 and did not make many appearances for Aston Villa that season as his fitness declined visibly), the replacement creative outlet Willem Korsten sustained a really bad injury that he never recovered from and so we were left with a dearth of creativity to feed the new signing whose confidence vanished after a promising debut against (Ipswich i think?) and we didn't push on that season as many hoped.

He wasnt actually sacked for the team performances either, im sure it was to do with the new owners (ENIC) finding some dodgy cash in drawers activity when they carried out their initial audit (bearing in mind Graham had previous for dodgy dealings at Arsenal)

So a much more complex picture of fan emotions surrounded Graham than what youre making out.

with ange around i think our europe adventure will be cut short.
well unless he's going to win it and sacrifice the league

Hey! I was on the ancestor of this very forum back then and I'll have you know this was the best time ever. There was a guy called Paul Popescu who was cooler and more knowledgeable than all of the current posters put together! I swear, these kids... (I hope it's clear this was a tongue-in-cheek comment) (apart from the praise for Paul Popescu, who really was a cool guy to chat with)

Will I what?

...IF the club were to determine, after all this soul-searching and deep analysis that has been taking place since the season ended, that Postecoglu is the right choice for manager, would you accept that? Not asking if you'd like it, just if you'd accept it or would you be banging on about the geezer game after game (in fairness I cannot remember your view of him so take this as a question)...

You can't compare us to United. Despite them being a shambles they are relentlessly ambitious and want a return to their heady times. It means they will spend big on players (rightly or wrongly) that they believe will be game changers for them.

Our approach has been and likely always will be a tad more cautious and as a consequence slower in pace and action.

The question was specifically about whether Utd had told Amorim he was safe. My post (quoted above) was referencing that buying players identifies by the manager so quickly was, IMO, a statement of support...context mate ;)

You know exactly what I'm asking but I'll play...

If I knew what you were asking I wouldn't have given you that reply.

As I've stated elsewhere, I'm neither Ange in or Ange out, it's a tough decision and can see both sides of the argument. If he hadn't won the Europa there was only one choice, but now it's not as straightforward. So yes, no matter what the decision is I'll accept it.

I don't disagree with you at all. United are attempting to support thier manager to best of their ability. It's often misguided but you can feel their intent.

Fair enough and apologies if my initial question was not clear.

And just to add, I am not suggesting we necessarily jump two-footed into silly season. I suspect any plans for players we had under Ange would've been within our structure.

They are, but it highlights the difficulty of football management at this level, money without a plan, without guardrails is a disaster.

Amorim has been worse than Ange, there is a stat that his PPG since joining United is on par/worse than one of the Derby sides that went down (Statistically one of worse teams ever in PL). Cunha & Mbeumo are good buys, the problem is, it's no where near enough, they are at that "need painful rebuild" stage and have been for some time. They need two strikers, a new GK, defensive additions and another set of legs in midfield.

Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho, Mount, Casimiro, list goes on, are all problems still to solve
