Not by anyone serious. League performance has to be focus for any club ownership. It's the bread and butter and the only route to consistent silverware (not a flash in a pan once a generation cup win) is building a squad good enough to consistently perform in the league. Ramos won our last trophy. But certainly wasn't a successful managerial appointment ...
 
Today's performance was unacceptable. Again.
Palace were just cruising through our team and attacking our disjointed backline at will.
VAR saved us a couple of times.
Palace had 20 efforts on our goal when I stopped watching at 75 minutes, and we had had 1 effort on target, at home.

Our full backs would charge off up the wing expecting a through ball which was easily cut out, and then we were screwed. Over and over again.

Stupid system. Begone.
 
The most subtle part of Ange's interview was his use of the word "psychological". So the king of psychology is now implying that his own squad has psychological issues. You have to admit, that is a very concerning thing for him to say.
 
We did it again today. We went from a solid team with a clear gameplan that could get the result needed to progress to the Final, to what we saw today.

And I do understand that we had so many changes BUT it was still a team of 11 very capable players who appeared as if they had zero motivation and very little gameplan. Was the idea just to go around and run around a bit? Why is it that Ange can only deliver performances when his first team is available, otherwise we look devoid of any clue.

We need to step it up and hold a solid gameplan that whoever plays we can get results. I don’t care about losing today, that isn’t the point. I don’t care about losing but wish the team that we had sent out played with purpose, had a go to try to win.

It’s days like these that make me think that Ange can only manage with our best team available and that isn’t always going to be available. We need to have a clear structure so we can switch players around and still look like a team that has a clue what it’s doing on the pitch.

Maybe I’m being harsh but it is a serious question mark and my major doubt over Ange. This is how we are where we are in the league, as we haven’t had our first team available, and it is how we achieved the start that we had last season as we had our best team available. So why can’t he manage the team to success when we are rotating players?

It's an interesting point about Ange relying on the distillation of high level concepts to effective training ground and match implementation.

If he is pretty hands off on the training ground (some interviews suggest he is), then he hasn't been given the best chance to succeed by the club, regardless of my opinion of wherever he was likely to succeed or not....

He also doesn't have a coaching team that follows him wherever he goes which is pretty unusual, I think all our recent managers have brought their own team with them.

Yeah, i can't remember a coach that didn't have his own guys in the coaching set up. I do wonder whether this "lone wolf" attitude and separation from the coaches and players (which he states he does) leads to the perceived "arrogance"/"stubbornness". Not sure how much challenge he is receiving.

Most famous example of coaches taking on board constructive challenge is Bobby Robson who was convinced by the players to change his system in the 1990 world cup....sounds like Ange doesn't even encourage that kind of dialogue let alone listen to it....

It's the probably the most self aware think he's ever said.

At the top level the level is top every week.
It's a step too far for him.
You get away with it in Scotland.
He should target the bracket just above Scotland - Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands; see what he does there

Edit - just thought, even at Celtic, European competition was over as a contest by about November, so of course he doesn't know how to manage it.

Ange is nearly at the end of his with us.

This is my argument, since when did playing two games a week become a problem. If the manager tells the players they are tired they will believe him. Ange keeps saying he takes responsibility, then blames everything else for losing game after game. He has to go regardless of the EL final result. Once again, the worst manager we have ever had
