Could be, but I'd rather stick Bale out there. But then again he could be on the right and cut in, but where would that leave Lennon and vdv, and if vdv is moved into the midfield where's Siggurdson gonna go??? Glad I'm not the manager :D

Bale on the right??? Worst tactical move ever.

Where have you heard about Barton? Nothing on BBC, Sky, Goal, Caught Offside or his Twitter account...

If we dont land Ade for any reason, we're going to be seriously, seriously desperate. And please dont give me names like Llorente, Falcao, Higuain and Leandro. Assuming so, who would you take as a desperation last-48-hours-of-the-window-signing? People lile:
- Fletcher
- Bendtner
- Berbatov
- Carroll

We could be down to that level...

id obviously prefer Adebayor + 1 but i'll take him on his own with the way things appear to be going !

i wouldn't be surprised if the Modric saga is holding up a few deals tbh, think about it - if Madrid don't meet our valuation that would dramatically alter the money we could spend on other areas so it's possible that rather than press ahead with our 'second choice' or cheaper targets we wait and see if the Modric deal goes through which in turn allows us to go for our first choice players.

obviously it's not ideal to leave it so late before completing your transfer activity but what would you honestly rather see - conclude our business early by going for our 'lesser' targets or hold out for the Modric money and go for our first choice signings ?

I'll reserve jumping on the "OMG what a brick window" bandwagon until 1st September when we can take in the whole window and make sense of whats happened.

Im not jumping that its a brick window but jumping on the timeliness of transfers - I guess unlike you and some others I see the window as closing yesterday (bearing in mind Noocastle game on saturday).

It is a catch 22 - go for the lower quality targets and get them before Noocastle or wait and get higher quality targets - obviously I choose the latter rather than the former.

I think we need two strikers and whilst one is enough if Ade gets injured then I think season would hit the rocks - infact I was extremely worried last season

names like Llorente, Falcao, Higuain and Leandro.

Have to say it amuses me how Leandro finds himself in the same company as strikers proven to be top class in a top european league. How exactly has that happened?

Not a dig at you - its just you provide an example of a recurring recent theme

Lol well he clearly knew nothing about it only an hour ago!!

He reacted to say it was news to him that someone else was getting his shirt number!!

Fletcher.

Decent player. And (for no good reason, I confess) he doesn't strike me as the hissy fit type if he becomes more of a back up option if and when we do finally the higher level strikers that we're after.

Agree...he's just one of the fashionable names on this board for us to be linked to and for posters on here to desperately want us to sign. We need to target realistic players

Fletcher will never seem to get credit just because he's Scottish and plays for Wolves. Guy is criminally underrated

Raul with it? Tottenham eye Meireles as they prepare to sell Modric

Reunion with midfielder he signed for Chelsea last summer is on the cards for Villas-Boas as he rules out moves for Moutinho and M'Vila

The Spurs boss swooped to take the 29-year-old to Stamford Bridge in a £12million deal from Liverpool last summer.

Meireles, who also served under Villas-Boas at Portuguese giants Porto in 2010, is known to have been one of his countryman's loyalists last season.

He is also known to have been left upset by the Blues' decision to sack Villas-Boas last March.

Now he is in the thinking of his former boss, who wants to move quickly to replace the outgoing Luka Modric.

Villas-Boas revealed that a deal with Real Madrid over the departure of the Croatian is only a matter of time.

He said: "The targets are identified, then it's a question of how quickly can we close the deals."

However, the Spurs manager claims to have ended his pursuit of two potential midfield newcomers, Portugal international Joao Moutinho and Yann M'Vila of France.

Porto schemer Moutinho is seen as too expensive while Tottenham already have players in defensive midfield, where Rennes star M'Vila would operate.

Villas-Boas said of M'Vila: "He's an interesting player but I don't think he will join Tottenham. He is a player of defensive characteristics.

"On the possible replacements for Luka, we are looking for a more creative player.

"I can't lie to you. We had initial interest in the player [M'vila] but we have moved on from that one and are now looking for a player more creative.

"We think that we have certain players that offer those defensive
characteristics in our team already."

Porto want £30million for Moutinho and Villas-Boas said: "On Moutinho, I have experience of Porto - it is a club that sells expensive, but they sell a good product.

"They have a pride on defending that kind of brand. They know what sells from them triumphs at other clubs.

"It has been like that with numerous amounts of players and that is why it is very difficult."

I agree with this. Leandro is clearly rated highly, and seems to have a knack for goal. But if we did sign him we would need patience and allow him to grow into a new league and new responsibilities.

It's something romantic about brazils number nine though. He is a good player, and looks to be the kind of forward we need. I for one would give him time if we signed him, but I think that only signing him and no one else to take the pressure of him would be a mistake.
