* / OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs Saudi Sportswashing Machine / *

As I said. It's not just the issue of our money but the whole market falling in line. I think we are keen to reduce our wage bill. Liverpool have rich owners and deeper pockets. The scum have £100 million more turnover. And Chelsea? We know the score. We cannot compete whilst running a sound business.

That does not mean we should be incapable of securing a striker before the season starts mate, lets face it I not saying we should splash £100m just a couple of strikers. Considering how long we have known we would be in this position I think it is pretty poor.

I guess the good thing is maybe like last season if we lose our first 2 matches someone might actually get something done and we might have a striker in situ for our 3rd game

I think we look decent across the middle

This team would be quality IMO:

Friedel

Walker, Verthongen, Kaboul, BAE

Bale, Modric, VDV, Sandro, Lennon

Defoe

Get the ball on the deck and play to the relative strengths of the team.

Sadly Modrat won't be playing so Livermore will do a job, and I do rate him.

As long as our Centre Back pairing gels well I'm hopeful that team can beat most teams, but Ade would be a better option as he holds play up well.

I understand the reasons why we hold off as the whole market it jammed up and there needs to be a cornerstone signing to set the dominos off!! Just fudging frustrating!!!

that team is not gonna play

modric and sandro i dont think will suit up

dont know why we are worrying anyway.

AVB has got this , he's a super coach and super tactician able to make players in deft technical ones. He allegedly puts harry to shame with his skills

we got this brothers,

0-3 to Tottenham

Affy, there is no need to mention Redknapp in every thread, mate. Please try and stay on topic and not drag arguments across threads.

jeez African - you're really taking the whole Redknapp thing in a bad way man

I don't think it's necessarily about Harry - more that he's unhappy with how AVB has been talked up as a super-coach and he doesn't think he will fulfill those expectations. But I really rate AVB, I think he will do well with us but he needs to get some reinforcements soon and just because I think he is great it doesn't mean he won't lose games.

Don't know why people are worrying about our central midfield on the previous pages. If we are playing 4-2-3-1, we have plenty of players able to slot into the deeper 2. Livermore can do it. Jenas I think will fill in very well. And if not, we can even use someone like Carroll.

Jenas though, has been quite unlucky in his Spurs career. He's been crying out for a manager that favours a pressing game so he can show off his athleticism rather than having to use his footballing brain - which I think he has got, but is severely under-rated by football fans. But he was here under Jol, who liked a patient passing game but not really full on AVB style pressing. Then Jol's game went sour when he didn't get a Carrick replacement, so the team in general was average for a good year and a half. Then Ramos, and initially Jenas looked good. But then the post CC win lull set in, and again the whole team looked crap for another 9 months. Then Harry comes, and Jenas got some games but he is the type of manager to prefer individual flair or bloody and guts body on the line type of play, 'obvious' attributes, and it didn't really suit him all that much.

But now, I think Jenas, in a balanced team full of quality, asked to press for 90 minutes and use the ball patiently and intelligently, I think he will be well suited and be a valuable asset to us if he has to play. But Livermore/Jenas/Huddlestone/Carroll are good enough options for me to not panic.

The striker situation is more dire, but thems the breaks.

Didn't realize Harry did his transfer business early in the window. Move on.

So we just pay top dollar and top wages for 2 strikers? I dont like it either but brinkmanship gets the best deals. I think the window should only open during the close season. Having the overlap with the beginning of the season is just wrong. And massively disruptive.

I concur with this.

It's not like the teams are even restricted to negotiating in the transfer window either, they could have been negotiating prior to the end of last season.

Jermaine Jenas a valuable asset?

Jermaine Jenas a valuable asset?

Hell yeah!

A Jenas playing in a system that suits him with a team that isn't also performing like a shower of brick...I think he could be one of those funny football stories where he starts performing and becoming a big player out of nowhere, when everyone thought he was done.

Of course, we could just use him if we are down to the bare bones and sell him on before September, but I think the potential is there for him to be decent for us.

He's also a snip this season on fantasy premier league at £4.5m ,

On a bit of a downward trajectory though:

Focusing on the players who are here, I think that I'd line up like this on Saturday.

-------------------Gomes--------------------
Walker---Verts--------Kaboul---------BAE
-----------Sandro--------Livermore--------
Lennon--------Siggurdson------------Bale
--------VDV-----------------------------

That said, I think he'll go. If Sandro is unfit, replace with Livermore.

-------------Gomes (got a feeling)----------
Walker-----Verts---Kaboul------------BAE
--------Sandro--------Siggurdson---------
Bale--------VDV-----------------Lennon
---------Defoe----------------------

Some great attacking talent up front, but a little lightweight in the middle. Seems to be asking a hell of a lot from Sandro. The one thing that will do my head in is if we play Bale on the left and Lennon on the right with Defoe in the middle. No chance of winning any fudging crosses.

In other news, if we don't buy anybody else of consequence this summer, I expect VDV to have a masterful season. Finally gets to be the nuts of the midfield, and I think he's got the ability to do the job. Honestly, I think it's extremely unlikely that we'll stump up huge cash for a true Modric replacement and a super striker, but I would be more than happy with Modric out for around L28 million, and Dembele, Ade, and Niang (or whatever young striker you like) for around L15. Think that team is good enough to challenge again. Of course, I'd fudging love love love Moutinho and Damiao, but can't see it happening.

2-1 (VDV and Lennon, Ba)

I'm liking the positivity!

Whatever has (not) happened regarding transfers this is the situation we find ourselves in and we've got a tough game to play.

COYS!

Read that sentence in bold and tell me what that has got to with anything I have said. There are numerous examples out there of clubs making use of excellent scouting systems. Take Dortmund for instance, they signed Robert Lewandowski for 4.5m euros in 2010 while Saudi Sportswashing Machine signed Patinkle Cissé for £8m. Just two examples to show that there are bargains out there if you look hard enough. Heck even Everton got Nikica Jelavic for just £5.5m and he went on to score 9 goals in 10 league starts and 3 substitute appearances - and that was after they got rid of Saha.
