The Goon Thread

Very late win and a lot closer match than many had expected. Shows that they grind the results out and don’t stop fighting which is concerning. Hoped that they would drop points so that we could close the gap to 4 points on Thursday night.
It’s fine. They won’t bottle it again as someone else takes the title.

Or shows they are getting luck that doesn’t last
can be both

GHod I hope Ramsdale doesn't leave in January. It's clearly causing them all sorts of problems. A stronger team than Luton might not have let him get away with 2 mistakes.

But other than that...they look good, sadly. Need them to get some injuries.

They won't let Ramsdale leave, despite all the transfer talk they wouldn't be that stupid. What if Raya got injured on 1st Feb!? Arteta is just trying to say the right things but he won't have any intention of letting Ramsdale go until the summer, in my opinion. I am enjoying the issue it's causing them though

They always look good at the start and middle of the season. It's around March when they start to implode. I think they have yet to play Liverpool or Villa. Let's see how they have done after those games. Such a shame we have been decimated by injuries and suspensions and to two of of arguably our best players as well.

I liked it better when they used to take November off under Wenger. They'd sort of hang on to 4th through winter and have a little surge in spring to give everyone renewed hope for next season.

Think Brighton & Liverpool next for them in league

Mikel Arteta escapes FA punishment for refereeing rant after Saudi Sportswashing Machine defeat

  • Spaniard labelled decisions ‘embarrassing’ and a ‘disgrace’
  • Football Association found charge to ‘be not proven

Mikel Arteta has escaped punishment following a Football Association charge after a post-match rant at refereeing standards.

The Arsenal manager labelled the decision to allow Anthony Gordon’s goal to stand in a 1-0 Premier League defeat at Saudi Sportswashing Machine on 4 November as “embarrassing” and a “disgrace”.
Arteta was duly charged by the FA for breaking Rule E3.1 - which could have resulted in a ban, but has instead been cleared of any wrongdoing.
“An independent Regulatory Commission has found the charge against Mikel Arteta for an alleged breach of FA Rule E3.1 to be not proven,” an FA statement read. The manager was charged following various comments in media interviews after Arsenal’s Premier League game against Saudi Sportswashing Machine on Saturday 4 November.
“It was alleged that his comments constituted misconduct in that they were insulting towards match officials and/or detrimental to the game and/or brought the game into disrepute.”

You think having Legohead on the touchline helps them?

That is just ludicrous. If making the comments that he did publicly in an interview is deemed to be "not proven" in terms of misconduct or bringing the game into disrepute, then it's effectively a free-for-all. Any manager can now say the equivalent, comfortable that they can't get a ban.
Whilst there are undoubtedly issues with the quality/competency of some referees and the implementation of VAR, if I was referee and this was the level of protection I was getting, I'd seriously consider jacking it in.

You could just openly paraphrase Lego Man in interviews, and you'll be off clean.

"Like Arteta said, the decision was both embarrassing and and a disgrace".

"In the words of Arteta, that penalty was a disgrace and an embarrasment."

"I'd like to quote Arteta when I say the referee was embarrassing and a diagrace today."

Wow!

Can you imagine if Jose was still in the Prem, he’d have a field day with this! Every other press conference he’d be quoting Arteta.

Seriously though, wow!

There's no other explanation! That's fudging absurd! Other managers have got suspended for merely hinting at the officials being poor, and then this legoman gets away with blatant abuse!
It's disgusting!
Actually, it's embarrassing and a disgrace!
