Clement Lenglet

If he was under 21 he would be worth signing but at his age and wages for a sub, I dont think it's a good deal, as many have said we need someone who starts in most games and can defend at set pieces.

Repeating myself, but it's the context

- We want to dump Dier, Sanchez, Rodon, Tanganga (4 out)
- That would technically leave us with one CB (Romero) who doesn't stay fit
- That means we need at least 2 CB's who are potential 1st 11, plus at least one backup
- Those two CB's will be expensive and most likely come from another league (need to adapt)
- The hardest CBs in world football to find seem to be LCB

In that context, the backup who can cover LCB, who knows the club & league now for £5M-£6M absolutely makes sense and probably gives us another £15M-£20M that could go into the two main CBs (along with the £5M saved from Deki and potentially £21M+ from not going for Raya)

In a year, we can move him on for a profit.

There are a lot wishes in there, dumping 4 cb is not going to be easy, if that could be achieved it might be worth doing.

Not guaranteed. He'll want a 4 year contract and he's not going to give up his wages at Barca easily.(he has 3 years left). The low sale fee can then give us room to give him a higher wage, then we can't move him on because of that higher wage.

Best just to take him off Barca on the exact same loan terms as last season imo.

How long left on his Barce contract?

Lets be fair to him, its not just about what you have mentioned and is also about what he can do on the pitch and he has some value here. Under Ange we will be a front foot team with way more possession and he has proven to be a very good footballing CB who creates chances for attackers. He will look far better under Ange's system than he did last season.....

We won't get two expensive CBs. It'll most likely be Romero + new CB as our starters and then Dier and Lenglet (and possibly Davies) as backup.

Would much rather get someone like Adarabioyo than Lenglet for the second CB spot. Lenglet's high wages would probably make up the fee difference over the course of the respective contracts. And no sell on fee for Lenglet.

We'll probably end up with both.

I'd much rather keep Dier than Lenglet if we're talking about who is going to be left alongside Romero and 2 new incomers. Dier is much more capable in a higher line.
Dier isn't more capable in a high line, he's slow, especially turning to get back with balls over the top. I'd prefer Sanchez in a high line, at least he has the pace needed.

Remember what happened at city with the head bounce ... I felt sorry for him. He just didn't deserve it ... hope he is happy elsewhere.

Dier can go too.

Not saying I want him there, just if it was a choice between the two in a high line. Yup, hope he moves to a league that suits him better and he gets more game time.
Dier will be here one more year, released at the end of his current contract.

Wtf is it with you and how a player used to be years ago? That is from 8 years ago. Do you really think he is the same player and the same physically now that he was then?

Pace doesn't tailor off till early to mid 30s. Dier is only 29, so right at his physical peak (generally 23-30).

Generally I think we have to ignore anything from the past 3.5 years in terms of players' form. Horrendous managers have done all sorts of damage, but there will be resurrections for some players if Postie is any good.

Pace isn't the problem with a high line, game reading, positioning and anticipation are more important along with a dash of decision making. Sadly he's quite poor in four areas.

Pace only then comes into it if your positioning and anticipation are initially off, with Dier he will make misjudgments making his lack of extreme recovery speed and agility poorly suited for a recovering CB in a high line.

It will not end well.
