Shows being the right man in the right place is an important (but unpredicable) factor. Sometimes, it's a matter of finding the right words when you speak to the players. I made a quick research a couple of weeks back and when you look at club of a similar standing to ours, one successful appointment in three or four is par for the course.
Yep
It’s never easy
You need a lot of things to align on and off the pitch
We were gonna sack Poch (in his view) if we didn’t beat Villa with the Harry Kane deflected free kick all those years ago
I know arsenal were interview to replace arteta only 24 months ago but no one wanter it who they are wanted
Players coming through make a massive difference
Timing do other teams declines helps too
So much that can and does happen

They were in financial difficulty and sold most the squad after a good first season and left him with a bunch of academy players iirc - obviously doesn't translate to a particularly good spell all in all but I'm not sure I've seen anyone say that tbh

assume you mean Poch?
I’d say that GB thinks it was a stellar innings
Many do…

And their main CB/captain Jarque died. The squad got very emotionally affected by that

Similar to when we employed someone who got the sack from Espanyol with his team in last place, then bounced over to Southampton?

Not sure how that proves that Silva would be a success!!

Based on your rationale, we'd hire every manager Espanol has sacked and who wasnt sacked in the first year of their next place!

I mean, it was literally your rationale that appointing Silva would show how far we’ve fallen because of his chequered history I was disproving, by highlighting Poch’s chequered history!

It’s not my rationale, it’s yours mate.

The only shoure thing right now is that we looks like fools, no manager, no dof, no europe and maybe no Kane

Its weird and so is how long its gone on.

It has all the hallmarks of a club that’s about to be sold.

But I have heard nor seen nothing anywhere that suggests that.

Although sometimes these things happen quicker than people think and no one gets wind of it.

I mean its reasonable to think that Sheikh Jassim has grown tired of the man utd process and if he slaps £4.5bn on Lewis’ lap I reckon it could all be done before anyone knows what is going on.

I dont think Poch's history was chequered. He was on an upward trajectory. He got Southampton to 8th in his first full season there. That's a miracle for them!! Granted Southampton took a punt on him after he left Espanol but the Espanol to Southampton move was upwards and he did exceptionally well at Southampton

I dont see that same upwards curve in Silva given that he's bounced around with Hull (PL at the time), Watford, Everton and Fulham. 10th placed finish for Fulham this year is decent I accept but I think there's more hope value in appointing him (i.e. that he replacates his Fulham finish, rather than the Everton season when he was sacked). I mean, Alan Pardew had some decent finishes in his time and with enough seasons, you'll eventually get some top half finishes.

We have very few options available to us now. I think exciting/attacking football has to be the priority so potentially Ange might be top of the pile now. What other attacking managers are available? Amorim has rules himself out given Sporting's season this year

Appointing a manager who in the last 6 years has quickly bounced between Hull, Watford, Everton and Fulham really would confirm we've fallen a long way!

Maybe we need to face up to the truth before we can get on the road to recovery. It’s good to know where we stand and we may as well face the fact that we have fallen a long way. Since 2016/17 (our peak) here’s our final league position:
2-3-4-6-7-4-8

It looks like last season was an aberration.

It has all the hallmarks of a club that’s about to be sold.

Completely disagree. My day job is buying and selling businesses across many industries. The recent period of Spurs' history is the opposite of a club which is about to be sold, unless ENIC are throwing the keys in and accepting any price offered, which we know isn't their way of operating

So as Mason said at the weekend, we need to think about what we are and what we want to be

Clear implication being that Spurs are a team which plays attacking entertaining football and uses the academy as much as signings.

I think that's where we'll head back to, and probably with Ange as the next manager (partly as I dont see other managers who fit the bill)

Scary right
People talk Poch was a success at espanyol and when challenged never comment ..
he had some decent results there but you would never touch him off the back of that spell
Happy to be challenged on this mate. He took over at Espanyol, with them bottom of the league and him still a player coach. He took them to mid table in his first season taking 4 points off Pep Guardiola's brilliant Barcelona team. Finished mid table with a team in deep financial trouble and having to sell their best players 3 seasons in a row. Eventually left by "mutual consent" ( same as Conte at Spurs). with them bottom of La Liga but not relegated. It is widely acknowledged that he impressed at Espanyol which brought him to the attention of Nicola Cortese at Southampton who brought him to the PL.
