Pressure changes everything/everyone, the big concerns around Potter were
- Could he deal with pressure of expectation, at Brighton he could afford to lose 4 in a row, at Chelsea 2 wouldn't be accepted.
- At Brighton, his system had an issue with goal output, would that carry to Chelsea (looks like it has, and Brighton has scored more since he left)
- He was a make the best of a set of players manager vs. system, so where he has the ability to pick any player in the world, what system does he have to make them better vs. make it work.
- He was a one of those hard working team managers, how that translates to a team that basically is mercenaries, just there for the paycheck, e.g. did you really think you would get Aubameyang to run hard for you?
There always a risk, and the only reason he's still there is it will cost them £50M to fire him and his team, because the idiots gave him a 5 year deal.
The quality of those players. I'd just tell them to go out and do their stuff and probably get better results.

Their wages and amortisation are currently at 76% of turnover (not including wages for the coaching staff or agents fees). Sacking potter would put them at 87%. They'd have to sell players in the summer to meet the new spending rules. (Although you are allowed a €60m loss over 3 years).

F**king hate that shower with an absolute passion but feel for Potter. He has the look of a man whose reputation is evaporating in front of his eyes and there is absolutely nothing he can do to stop it.
Wrong job for him but he couldn't turn it down really. I hope he gets to rebuild his career somewhere else at a decent level. There are question marks over him for sure but, while he was never the genius he was portrayed as, he also isn't as clueless as he's gonna be portrayed when this comes to an end.

That days gone, vast majority of players today can't or aren't allowed to think for themselves, everyone has to be told what to do, that's why we have 2 minute coaching session for ever sub. Game is faster, players probably got better techniques but not as much fun as it use to be. Was great when both teams wanted to win a match rather than not lose and try and nick a win or draw.
£50m pay off would probably help him cope. He'd get another job quite quickly.
Boehly will be facing some tough questions if potter was sacked.

I'm skeptical he'll get 50m. I know they're throwing money around like confetti but they have to have some sort of "get out of jail" card for that size of a pay off. That said, Potter will get more from it than I'll earn in a lifetime.

Boehly will be the question mark, Potter will fail (it's just timing now), some of his very expensive, long contract players will fail and it will be easy to see £150M-£250M in "mistakes" happening in his first 18 months in charge, and a narrative will build around that.
We paid off Poch his full contract, Conte (eventually) got his full payout from Chelsea, Chelsea is paying Tuchel out, United paid Moyes for years after, no get out of jail cards.

Didn’t United get off with a cheaper payout to Moyes? They delayed firing him until it was mathematically impossible for them to get CL. Think they lost to Everton to seal his fate.
I know the perception is these lads have more money than sense but they didn’t make billions by tinkling it away. I can’t believe that they guarantee an unproven manager 50m over 5 years in a profession where the chances of making it beyond year 2 or 3 are remote.
Long conversation around if they have more money than sense.
If there was an easy button, they would have pulled it already.
Ok just read a piece by swiss ramble on chelseas spending. He calculates that chelsea are already at 92% (cut off 90% for this season). They already have to balance the books. They miss out on cl that is exacerbated. Sacking potter on top? They'll need to sell. If they get in europe. If not it's only pl rules they need to worry about which are less stringent.

They have about 200 academy players they can sell, and they seem to get 15-20m for every one of them they sell.
Of course it makes sense sacking Potter, part of it is a message on what is acceptable.
Sack him, get the manager you want, have him work with the players for the rest of season with zero pressure, pick who stays, who goes (lots have to) and who you need for summer
They've been excellent at selling in the past. Problem is at the moment only prem teams seem to have money. Many of their academy players have refused new contracts. I believe it's 12 that will be out of contract in the summer. We already picked up jude sunsop bell.
They can (and most likely will) balance the books in the summer. But it is a bit of a mess at the moment. Sacking potter as i said just exacerbates the problem.

Pays well, lots of young talent, chairman will probably buy whoever you want, the only way is up. Is there a better job on paper? I'm sure Poch would never go to Arsenal, but where does the loyalty stop, not sure I've ever heard him say he wouldn't go to Chelsea?
