Thing with Sandro is, he doesn't look that quick but he makes up ground very quickly, he's like a machine when cutting across grass!! Box to box midfielders don't neccesarily have to score a lot of goals. Alex Song, Michael Essien, Schweinsteiger or Toure don't all score alot of goals.

Song & Essien aren't box to box IMO. Not sure the other two are either. I've seen Sandro outpaced a fair few times in midfield races.

Essien was always best as box to box for me. I see Song as a box to box too, maybe not like Vieira once was though, I think it is why they want M'Vila who would most likely be the more defensive one.
 
Song is a fantastic player,his passing and vision are top notch.He is not someone who often finishes chances,but he creates a lot of them.RvP scored alot of great goals last season because of Song's great through balls.
 
Sandro's definitely turning into a very good player, but I hope we start the season with both him and Scott Parker in the squad. If Parker is prepared to accept that he's now competing for a first team spot rather than being the default preferred No. 1 (a big "if", as he's still good enough to be automatic first choice at a lot of premiership clubs in my view) then we could do a lot worse than having him and Sandro competing for a spot in the team. As well as having cover for potential injuries.

Parker still has a role to play at Spurs and I hope the new manager sees that.
 
Problem is, regardless of who you rate between Parker/Sandro, I believe you need both.

The effort, physical style and work rate does not lend itself to a full season uninjured or unsuspended for that matter.
 
Parker could easily offer another season of solid performances before Sandro becomes a regular (assuming he doesn't leave)

And for those saying AVB wouldn't like him - his buddy Mourinho forged a double winning Chelsea side around a similar (although vastly superiror) player in the face of Makelele. Amost every formation needs a destroyer/semi-clogger

Defensively Sandro is potentially immense. His tackling is just incredible, and he is also good in the air.

He's certainly no Modric or Huddlestone but going forward he's streets ahead of Parker. His passing is mostly very sensible and only occasionally over-ambitious You do get the feeling though there's a real worldy in there trying to get out.

Thats hilarious even by your standards.

So foreign managers are all rascist then? Is that it?

Or all new managers refuse to use players who worked with their predesessor? That it? Or both? :lol:

Parker is excellent at what he does, sweeping up in front of the defence. ANY attack minded coach would see a lot of use for him - British or not, a fan of Harry or not.

If we play a 4-3-3, I believe we'll need someone who's defensively disciplined to sit in front of defense and play the simple pass or two

This will allow the other two (Sigurdsson and Sahin/Thudd??) to do the creative shizzle in front.

Not at all, he can certainly do that job. He is at his best, IMO (and at the moment) when he is hunting the ball down all over midfield and in the opponents half.

Its the biggest critisism I had of him being oartnered with Parker. Everyone says "it doesnt work" but thats because they were both played in the wrong position.

Sandro was expected to sit and hold, when its his instinct to go for the ball and burst forward.

Parker was expected to chase the ball and effect play further up the pitch.*

Both are perfectly suited to the opposite roles!

Im very interested to see a midfield 3 with Parker sitting, Modric and Sandro ahead of him - I think it balances really well.


* Have long held the opinion that the further up the pitch you want Parker to play the increasingly worse he does.

In front of the back four? Outstanding.
All round CM? Average.
Box to box player? Useless....
 
Even more reason to keep Modric (am I just being daft?) and pair him with either Sandro or Thudd... at LEAST till Parker returns... either that, or let's hope we get someone in to replace Modric quick, so that we CAN pair him with Sandro/Thudd!!!

Nothing to do with "racism" or manager favoritism,its just that people outside the UK dont rate Parker and that includes most foreign managers.

Is that the same as English managers only rating English players, and some don't hide their deep suspicion of 'qualities' like Work ethic/Loyalty etc when it comes to Johnny Foreigner & Carlos Kickaball...
