I'm going to disagree with you on this. Indoor farming is only suitable for certain plants and won't solve our food problems really. I will add that I did think exactly like you not that long ago but have come 180 on this. If you are interested I'll post some links in a different thread why vertical farming should not be where our focus should go.

As for the green new deal, if there was ever a right time to pivot to something more sustainable then it's now.

I had very similar symptoms for the last 4-5 days (minus the temperature) and they are starting to abate thankfully. I'll be interested to see if they do antibody checks down the road to see who had it and who didn't. Paracetamol is good advice.

We will have to agree to disagree on vertical farming. But then I have a religious like zeal about the subject.

Did I tell you I invested in beyond meat as well?

Totally agree time is right for a new future.

Not skyrise no certainly not. Just more growing locally. I use the food app to good to go. The amount of food that is wasted is criminal. Think it is about 3 times as much food is wasted as is eaten, when you think about the energy that has been used to grow food that goes to waste.

I also like reading about sustainable housing communities. Now this is where I become a hypocrite because I have properties I rent out. But to be honest I dont think it should be allowed. Or second home owning.

One upside to this virus is the amount of people working from home. Maybe if that becomes the future some of the regions will become more popular and it will spread the wealth of the country around a bit more.

Well I might post a few links that may convince you otherwise. The real issues are food waste/meat diets/ecosystem destruction/agri practices. Sort those out and there is no need to try and replicate nature in a box. Anyway, there are far worse things to be zealous about.

Have look at apocalypse cow on C4 website. It's a bit cringy but if you can suffer through that it might interest you.

well we allways need more food to go round. When I was akid all we had were a small row of shops. One we called the parrafin shop a butchers , bakers ..no super markets that have become massive over the years. My mum was still on war ration book in the early fifties so its crazy how some people are over stocking over this virus now.
We need more countryside that is dissapearing all over the place! IMO.. but I cant see it happening and if the population doesn't go down I see no way of solving global warming.
Incidently have you noticed how its got that bit colder since less cars on the road and less planes in the sky....:)

Christ is there anything more depressingly banal and futile than witnessing a generalised political debate between an entrenched leftie and rightie?!

As a GG experiment I'd love to see a political debate where everyone is forced to argue as best they can for the other side. Might lead to the slightest glimmer of political open-mindedness!

Without wanting to sound funny, have you any fear or anxiety around this whole situation...a lot of what you describe can be symptoms of that escalating.

The Trump administration are definitely pushing the China to blame for the virus for geopolitical reasons. The Chief Trumpite in the UK has written an opinion piece in The Times today and they are pushing the theme at the G7.

The rest of the article is actually quite sensible about the need for global cooperation. I didn't think Ole Woody had it in him. He's usually babbling about the merits of bacteria infected chicken and drugged up cows and about what should be on tables. But he ends with this:

I must admit I have just done the biggest Sainsbury’s order that I have ever done and am unlikely to do ever again. And it is panic buying. We fly back to London tomorrow after two weeks away. All I know is that I had (obviously) emptied the fridge before leaving and didn’t get around to stocking up the freezer. So based on what I have been reading I am ordering loads on the basis that I probably won’t get everything. If I do get most of what I have ordered then apart from milk, salad and veg I won’t need to buy anything for a couple of weeks.
I feel it’s maybe bad behaviour but also feel we’re behind the curve and need to catch up.
I’m kind of dreading what we’re going to face when we get back.

I'm somewhere in the middle so it's hard to start! :D

I guess I think:

- We have a system that most people (left and right) genuinely want and intend to be a meritocracy
- To some extent it is a meritocracy i.e. talent and hard work do play some part in what kind of job you're able to get
- But your job chances are also affected by external barriers and enablers, and these vary significantly across individuals and communities*
- And in any case, there isn't always a direct relationship between a job's financial rewards and the talent and hard work that it requires (e.g. it's possible to earn more money as a TOWIE cast member than as a doctor)

*Personally I don't think these barriers are created on purpose by an existing elite - I think they're a natural part of the way society and civilization has developed, and they're hard to reverse. E.g. if you grow up in a community where there's a lot of gang violence, you're more likely to get involved in gang violence than if you grew up elsewhere - thus perpetuating the cycle.
