Tottenham keen on Barcelona defender Nelson Semedo for January transfer
EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham are searching for a new full-back in January with Kyle Walker-Peters set to move to Crystal Palace on loan

Tottenham are keen on Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo.

The north Londoners are exploring their options with Barcelona and RB Leipzig entering race for their preferred target, 19-year-old Norwich rising star Max Aarons.

Semedo, 26, is available because Barca are desperate to sign Real Betis 20-year-old Emerson, who has graduated from being an U23 star for Brazil to a senior international.

He was capped by coach Tite in November during a 3-0 win over South Korea.

For Tottenham solving the right-back conundrum is a priority in this window with Kieran Trippier at Atletico Madrid and Kyle Walker-Peters expected to seal a move to Crystal Palace on loan.

Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen's future is still uncertain - with the Dane out of contract at the end of the season, with Real Madrid , Inter Milan and Manchester United all linked with him.

Real is apparently his destination of choice, but Steve McManaman is unsure how he would break into the current Bernabeu XI.

"If he wants to stay in this country then Manchester United would be a natural fit for him, but if he wants to go to Italy or Spain then certainly somebody will take him because if he wants to go to Spain he can sign a contract now and go at the end of the season," declared McManaman.

"It all depends on his personal opinion. Whether he’s good enough to play for Real Madrid is a different matter, because the midfield they’ve got are in good form at the moment.

"I saw against Getafe that they were back to the midfield three of Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric and of course Valverde is also there who’s playing really well, so they’ve got a number of players in that area already."

Don’t trust anything from Hotspur related, but they are the obvious areas of weakness now Harry’s injured until April.

They're just relaying information from other sources, so no need to distrust them, really. You can of course be skeptical of the validity of the stuff they're relaying, but you know, there'll be some bad and some good information. Some people on here (not saying you) seem so hellbent on all information from any source anywhere couldn't possibly know anything, because there are no leaks, but pretty much every transfer we have done over the past few years have leaked before it's been official.

West Ham fret after target Gedson Fernandes is offered to Tottenham
• West Ham fear missing out on Benfica midfielder to Spurs
• Tottenham may view Fernandes as good option amid injuries

West Ham fear they will miss out on Gedson Fernandes to Tottenham after learning that the Benfica midfielder has been offered to their fierce London rivals.

West Ham want to sign Fernandes on an initial 18-month loan but the latest twist in a complicated saga has seen Spurs enter the race after being contacted by Jorge Mendes, the player’s new agent. It is understood that Mendes, who has historical links with José Mourinho, has recently started representing the Portugal international.

West Ham have held talks with Benfica over a deal for Fernandes this week and made a fresh proposal to the Portuguese side on Thursday. It is understood that reports of the transfer being agreed in principle are incorrect.

Spurs are in the midst of an injury crisis and may view the offer to sign Fernandes as an opportunity worth taking. Mourinho wants to sign Milan’s Piatek after losing Harry Kane to a hamstring injury until April and he needs reinforcements in midfield, with Moussa Sissoko also out until April following knee surgery. Fernandes, who can play in central midfield or on the right, could give Spurs an easy way of bolstering the depth of their squad.

Fernandes is regarded as a long-term prospect by David Moyes, West Ham’s manager. The 21-year-old, who has also been linked with Everton, Lyon and Manchester United, would not be expected to make an immediate impact.

It is believed that Fernandes has family in London and is open to moving to the city. However it remains to be seen whether Spurs firm up their interest or leave the path free for West Ham.

West Ham will not consider their January business done if they sign Fernandes. Moyes is considering a move for Stoke’s Joe Allen and the club also hold an interest in another midfielder, Genk’s Sander Berge.
