This boards view on *alleged* racist behaviour

Just playing devils advocate: What happens if "one day" a player pretends to receive abuse just to stir up trouble? But no evidence is ever found.

Players sometimes feign injury to get others sent off so it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that it could happen. In that case would media pundits etc just believe it happened and the player gets away with it?

Even stopping short of that there's clearly the potential, especially given the current hyper sensitivity of the matter, for a player to make an instantaneous claim of abuse in the heat of the moment only to realise after the event that they might have been mistaken.

I’m starting to wonder about this whole thing!
It still feels strange he mimicked the monkey actions! Then said he ‘heard’ it.
Yet there’s no footage to back it up.......me thinks he’s brick stirring

Even in the heat of the moment how could your eyes or ears misinterpret seeing a monkey gesture or hearing monkey noises?

There is no action remotely similar to either.

In my view it either happened or he made it up.

That was my immediate thought and nothing since then has given me reason to doubt that assessment.
Likewise to be honest. Monkey chants just don’t happen in English PL grounds these days. Can anyone, honestly, say they’ve heard monkey chants in the last 20 to 30 years at WHL? I had a season ticket between 1989 to 2008 and I never once heard monkey chants, I’d be stunned if they turned up in 2019.

if someone did do this though, they are complete clams and should have the book thrown at them by the law. I just don’t believe it personally (maybe naively).

He’’s mistakenly heard “Yids” being chanted, or more likely a Chelsea racist giving it one of ours. A scum low-life club Chelsea and they always will be.
If they find a Spurs fan being racist take the appropriate action too.

I interpreted his complaint as being that he 'heard' rather than 'saw' something. I'd think it's far easier to mis-hear than to mis-see. If he's only claiming to have heard something, I think it's quite plausible he made a mistake.

My previous post was more querying how a 'mistake' scenario might be handled though, both by the complainant and the authorities. I'm not sure we're going to find out on this occasion.

I think that Neville is spot on here.

I think Neville's comments were outrageous. Calling the Prime Minister a racist is slander and he should face consequences. He isn't on TV to make cheap political jibes. And before you mention Boris' "letter box" comment - itself a jibe- Boris's argument was that Britain should not follow France and make the full face veil illegal. But having a pop at it is totally legit: I see the full face veil as a complete affront to British values. Far better to use humour than anger. I don't know when Boris made the "Picaninnies" reference, bur I'm sure whoever mentioned it will enlighten me!

If there really are people out there who cannot see how Johnson, Trump and their ilk stoke the lines of division along several lines -including race- then I have to believe they are willfully ignoring a growing trend of ugliness in society. The “casual lad racist” is out of its box, grunting and spitting abuse like it is a casual joke/makes them look and feel more “patriotic” or whatever brick these arseholes feel.

No-one should be fooled. We have them and we must make them unwelcome at our matches home and away.

So the club gets tarnished? It’s a tough one and clearly rudiger is not going to say perhaps he misheard the chant for boos.
Innocent until proven guilty still stands in this country. People like Gary Neville are going on like it was akin to the events in Bulgaria which was clear for all to see.

Sadly the club is already tarnished.
But if no evidence can be found to substantiate Rudiger’s allegation, then sharing the evidence of the lack of evidence (if that makes sense) with Chelsea would seem sensible, so at least they can see why no one is being held to account.

Apparently the club safety officer took it upon himself to replay the message the 2nd and 3rd times. This was not part of any protocol. It made it same like they're was continuing racist abuse in the stadium.

According to the club the announcement was repeated at the referee’s request :

In respect of protocols – when the incident was conveyed to the referee Anthony Taylor, he took the decision to call for the implementation of Stage 1 of the UEFA protocol – rather than the Premier League protocol - and asked for an announcement to be made, as well as requesting a further announcement which created a misconception that any issue was on-going.

He's a Chelsea, I don't think there's anything they wouldn't do

Yes, because in fairness, they were under the cosh already and were about to be under seige from out surging 10-man dynamo of footballing genius. Come on. Read what you’re saying.

They were already out of their box long before that.

At the risk of sounding like @parklane1 here, social media has given a voice to those so stupid that society has spent the last few hundred years ignoring them. People of low intellect who'd achieved nothing in life have not, historically, been given a voice or a platform to air their views. Social media allows anyone to air their opinion and anyone listening is far worse off for it.

Well it happened at the Manc derby a couple of weeks back and the individual was caught on camera.

He's a Chelsea - anything to gain any advantage.

I agree on your social media point wholeheartedly. Combined with lower standards in public education, it has decimated intellect and knowledge as the cornerstones of an opinions.

Not quite lower standards, just less "ability appropriate" education.

Back in the good old days* people who weren't cut out for education got to learn a trade through which they could carve a career. Now they end up stuck in education learning neither and leave school wondering why they're unemployable. I'd imagine that contributes to some of the backward thinking that goes into that abuse.
