This boards view on *alleged* racist behaviour

Indeed, I can only remember one time when someone said it with a clear malicious intent, after the Brexit vote when he told the multi national team of nurses and doctors treating his imminently life threatening condition that 'we'd voted for Brexit so you guys can go home' with a stupid smile on his face. What a prick.

I wouldn't be able to name one myself but to be honest, I could barely name you our line up last week, let alone whether there have been any all black sections of the team at any point.

As you've pointed out, Chelsea or Arsenal would probably be the best bets if I had to guess a team that might have had one. Or a random one managed by a bruiser manager like Allardyce or Dyche at some point.

Of course, if he is so inclined, he is welcome to watch the ANC, where he will see many all black midfields and defences. :D
Brain dead people
Maybe their playing for us now

What an idiot, there is no defence of that whatsoever.

Im not hunting it down, I fully expect a few on here with better memories than me to post more suggestions, I guess it was just an observation that struck me as it came up on here.

Im a big fan of the ANC, and IMO the quality of football gets better each time it comes around.

No but we do have a very very multi cultural side

Yes we do (in fact, these days, most teams do). Not the point I was making though.

Considering Vertonghen has come out and said a stand is needed to be taken against our fans, it is pretty obvious him and/or some of the players heard something. To suggest a player just made it up is embarrassing.....
I don't think you've read his comments properly.

I wonder if some of our fans would be so quick to ask for evidence or be so understanding if Sanchez had reported hearing racist abuse directed in his direction at Stamford Bridge.
Considering most of that team's chants when they play us are anti-Semitic, I'd consider it more likely that the player was right.

In this case I think it's unlikely (although not impossible).

That's why I don't think football is racist. We are still at the early stages of the journey and only education will be the death of racism.
Punishing some gobby dingdonghead and plastering his name all over the media does little but give it notoriety and oxygen.

Awful. You do an amazing job. Hopefully such a n ignorant fuk doesn’t tar it for you.

Cheeky of me, but are you suggesting black players are ‘bruiser’?

Just shows how complex race and society is. Generally I think people need to work through their ways of classifying - we are simple stupid beings most of the time. So voicing a question about a back line of black players is probably part of that. Deconstructing crude classifications of others, stereotyping etc is vital. Understanding (and reminding yourself) that everyone is unique regardless of age, race, wealth and shoe size...we have to take everyone as an individual.

I know the club officials read social media and sometimes check this board.

So i thought we could post our thoughts on it in one thread so it was easy and concise for the club to get a view of our thoughts.

If the alleged behaviour today is found to be true and spurs fans were doing monkey chants, i for one would like the club to take a stand and offer to play the next match in an empty stadium meaning we lose a lot of money. Even if that money comes from our much needed transfer budget.

It would be good for us to be proactive in this regard to show what we as Tottenham think of racist behaviour.

Wtf? really .. with a million cameras available, the club and fan base should take a multi-million dollar loss to appease your weird sense of seppuku because of the actions of probably less than 10 people (out of 60 thousand)?

The stance is simple

- This ignorance and flimflam is unacceptable
- Cameras should be used, the offenders found and identified, banned for life from the club and handed over to authorities for any further action they determine.

Nothing more is needed/required

I dont think racism is a BIG problem in English football.
It may show my age but I see modern football as almost completely sanitised. Ludicrous that one or two idiot fans may have created a media feeding frenzy, and Spurs -of all clubs- be tainted with racism. A guy near me was singing all game about a chelsea player being a murderer (the car accident guy - can't recall his name). So that kind of insult is clearly ok, but a player claims to hear racist chanting and the whole country knows- meanwhile real hurt, real pain, such as knife attacks get relatively little press attention.

Maybe I was naive when I said "Spurs don't do racism" - thinking of the vile "Judas" song about Sol Campbell, you wonder whether the vitriol behind it is just because of his "treachery" or is amplified because he is black? Who knows. But given that black stars like Defoe and Lennon and Ledley are adored by Spurs fans, it is fair to say we don't have a problem with black players representing our great club. I have never heard anything like monkey chants at the Lane, and I don't believe I ever will.

I support those that have said countries should play behind closed doors due to racism. Thinking the little east European ones. So to be fair the same should go for English club sides.

We would all suffer due to the actions of a handful of idiots or even one idiot. But that is what will finally get rid of racism, when it becomes so taboo that even knuckle heads will think twice.

Im someone who voted leave and follow some right wing policies and if these macarons think that they can behave this way because of the political climate, they are missing the point and even more deserving of being punished.

CLUB STATEMENT

During yesterday’s match against Chelsea, Antonio Rudiger reported hearing alleged racist abuse from an individual(s) in the South Stand.

We are able to track every fan via the cameras and have spent many hours reviewing CCTV footage. We have engaged lip readers to study the footage and contacted Chelsea for further information from their players. We have also taken statements from other parties present at the time. The police will be reviewing our evidence alongside us. Please be assured we shall be exhaustively investigating this matter.

This Club has a proud track record of anti-racism work across all our communities and we are determined to ensure that we conduct a thorough investigation. Any fan found to be guilty will receive a lifetime ban. At this time however we should point out that our findings are inconclusive and would ask that comment is reserved until the facts are established.

If anyone has any further information they should please email supporterservices@tottenhamhotspur.com or text 07537 404821.

In respect of protocols – when the incident was conveyed to the referee Anthony Taylor, he took the decision to call for the implementation of Stage 1 of the UEFA protocol – rather than the Premier League protocol - and asked for an announcement to be made, as well as requesting a further announcement which created a misconception that any issue was on-going. The Premier League protocol differs from UEFA protocol in that it does not call for an announcement rather that the individual(s) be dealt with by the Safety Team in the first instance.

We have asked that the Premier League clarifies the position regarding the use of these protocols to all stakeholders going forward.

Re the above statement - why on earth would Taylor decide to invoke the UEFA protocol rather than the PL one? This game was played under PL rules not a UEFA tournament.

Him calling it out in this manner has meant that the loud announcement around the stadium was heard by all. But It does not matter. When the alleged incident happened Rudiger made a point or re-inacting what he says he saw at least three times so it was picked up by camera.

I am not in the country for the last 3 years. But I was a season ticket holder before for a long time and a regular at White Hart Lane. In all my time of going since the late 80's I can honestly say I have never heard any of this kind of Racist chanting.

The statement from the club looks like they are doing all they can to find the person or people responsible. IF lip readers and video and audio cannot find it then how could Rudiger hear it?

Let me make myself clear. I in no way condone Racist singing or shouting. If I was next to someone that did that I would tell them to stop and actively do something to stop them.

What I find clear here though, is that the fans were booing him. He over-acted to get Son in trouble. The fans booed him. Is it possible that he took lots of this chanting in the wrong way? Law still suggest that you are inocent until proven guilty. Its walking a tightrope here. I think in most of the other occasion something like this has been reported there have been multiple witnesses. On this occasion Rudiger seems to be on his own. If none of our stewards, fans or players heard it then he must be mistaken.

If evidence is found. then throw the book at them. Ban them. I am all for that. I dont want our club stained by this. But in the aftermath of yesterday I just dont see the evidence for it.

So they can't identify 'monkey' chanting from the CCTV footage and no one has any record of it? If it turns out this is a mistake on Rudiger's part, what happens?

Surely at the very least Sky, Tyler and that self-righteous clam Gary Neville owe our entire club an apology?

They did find some Chelsea fans doing some racist abuse at son so I guess sky were right

Could be a good second use for VAR, during the week they can scour footage of the fans for criminality.

Remember that steward at Chelsea who was dragged into the crowd at Stamford bridge and never seen again, presumably beaten to death, would have helped with that.

They ate him i heard
Then used his bones to make a new bridge for their fans to cross the Thames

The club is handling this whole situation brilliantly IMO. Quick response, thorough investigation and subtle criticism of how the ref/media handled what is so far only an incident of alleged racism.

If there was racist chants from our fans, I want them banned from NWHL for life. There's absolutely no room for racism at our club, let alone football or society in general.

But if no evidence is found, it raises some very interesting questions about how the ref and the media/pundits handled the situation. I'll forgive Rudiger - if he thought he heard racist abuse, he should report it. From his reaction, he clearly did. If you have 50.000 fans booing you, mishearing abuse is certainly plausible.

The bigger issue is how this was dealt with, and from what has emerged so far, it looks like both the ref and the media/pundits have some explaining to do. Someone, based on what we know so far, quite clearly rushed to conclusions too soon.
