Can't remember the last time I've seen an opponent so open against us
Usually there's pressing or at least get tight and get 10 men behind the ball

Disappointed that after being 3-0 up a half time playing a 4231 Poch couldnt resist changing the formation again to a 433/4141

What the fudge was that about? I suspect we will be playing this second half 433/4141 at Anfield

funny how we see games differently. Lamela was ok today imo, nothing great nothing bad. But how he can get 9 votes and Son none is frankly bemusing. Unless of course spurs7891 hacked 8 other accounts. I voted for Kane btw, again imo no contest between him and Lamela.

Lamela directed our game and was aggressive and direct. I think that what we saw from Lamela tonight was someone fill the Eriksen shaped hole that we've had this season. That's probably the key role in us turning in a good performance. Let's hope that he can keep it up and do it against better teams.

No complaints about Son, he was everywhere and scored two excellent goals.

Indeed and that’s the point with Eriksen, he’ll never be replaced like for like just have to find a different way to play without him. People bang on about how Eriksen always runs the furthest, problem is he might aswell just be doing it in a local park because his running doesn’t pressurise the opposition at all. Lamela is aggressive and intense and has quality on the ball and that’s what we need going forward post Eriksen....

Or at least until Lo Celso has found his feet

Yes it was only Red Star, but even last season in our CL pomp we wouldn’t of got a much better result than that.
The important thing was the players were working as a team, intensity off the ball and some great quick football when we had possession. Of course Liverpool is going to be much more difficult a task, but I can stomach a defeat there if we see a team performance like this where everyone is playing as a cohesive unit forward and defensively.
Who would have thought that having a team full of players who want to be here would help eh:D....

We didn't need to defend.
And the idea Sissoko is better than Winks in attack is your best crack yet. Zing!
Sissoko was bloody excellent yesterday, and he carries the ball forward with pace, something Winks can only dream to do, after he's made 14 pirouettes and passed it sideways or back 174 times.
Sissoko was also a proper shield in front of the defence, and mopped up a lot of balls so the defence didn't have to defend. It's a role Winks does not do even half as good.
Winks is a vastly more technical player, but he needs to start doing something progressive and creative and utilize his technical ability in a positive way (going FORWARD), something he just doesn't do atm.

And .....on a final note....our first goal came from a corner!

Just imagine if we had converted one of the numerous corners we had against Watford. It would have been a totally different story. Lamela's delivery was great but no-one really attacked them. Glad to see Kane did last night.

It’s not about being better, it’s about being faster. Winks standard pattern of play taking the ball off he centre half, passing it to the other centre half, taking it back off of him, passing it to the full back, taking it back off of him then passing to a centre half merely allows the opposition to reset their defence.

I think we saw our best possible team last night. Havent been a huge fan of Sanchez but I think there is a player in him there. Needs to play with decent CB's and looks like Toby is on his way out, he's been brick for a while now. Verts is class but is slowly losing it but is still trying. I'd pair Sanchez and Verts as our CB's for now.

Midfield of Sissoko and Ndombele is much better than Winks IMO. Lamela/Moura and Son Kane up front will do. Alli just off them too.

Davies over Rose all day now, and if Aurier can understand what a tackle and foul is then I think he can get better.

Was working so only caught clips

Where has that tempo been all season?

Hopefully not a blip and this continues as teams can’t cope with us when start games like this.

Dombele looked like he changed the CM.

It's a fair point and occurred to me too. I really like Winks but the difference between his passing and Ndombele's was night and day. Itll be interesting to see if that is sustained over a run of games.
This notion previously touted on here that N'Dombele and Sissoko cant play together in CM is utter nonsense and has nothing to do with the Red Star game. Their physicality alone would make it difficult for any CM to dominate us, and they both have the ability to break the lines - Sissoko with his running with the ball, and N'Dombele with his impressive forward passing range....

Ndombele was more key in setting the tempo imo, he was open and available for the pass all night and directly created two with great through balls. Of course the next game will be much tougher with far less time on the ball, but yesterday was an insight into a post Eriksen Spurs whith Ndombele spraying the ball around.

Get over it and recognize there are some serious mitigating factors to accompany his uncertainty. Or don't. Your choice.Obviously.

Me get over it? Classic Steff! The guy who can't get over anything and chases others around the board just to make sure they all know...

Not sure what you saw last night, but I saw the manager doing the very thing I've been asking of him. If one of us was vindicated last night, it wasn't you.

And if you read my initial post you'd note the point on the movement ahead of him.

Winks passing is always limited when the team are standing around like cones.

When players were mobile, making runs, showing for the ball etc - I suspect his passing would be much more impressive. Not that it's anything as bad as you like to make out anyway.

And no matter how fast Sissoko is, he can't out run a pass

Curious to know what position you see him playing?

One of the two deeper in midfield. Question is whether he will need a Dier with him, or whether he can play with a Winks.

Obviously he was in the 2 yesterday, but given how RSB were he barely played in our half!
