No it’s about playing Son through the middle, Lucas is his back up and a similar profile, keeping the same pattern of play, we changed to 4231 after 20 minutes today, we stared with the midfield like this.

Lamela

Sissoko N’Dombele

Winks

after 20 minutes we went too

Lucas

Lamela. Kane. Sissoko

Explain why any sane person would set us up like that? Why put Kane as a #10 put the one footed Lamela on the left when his game is to naturally drift into the middle making him useless and keep Lucas up top when all common sense and logic tells you without making a sub to go

Kane

Lucas. Lamela. Sissoko

At half time bring Eriksen on put Lamela out to the right where he is comfortable cutting inside and Eriksen as #10.

It’s not a coincidence that Son’s best performances comes when Kane is injured as he is playing through the middle, but he was playing through the middle with the rest of the team playing in their natural positions, but going to the diamond it’s pushing Kane, Eriksen and Alli our of their natural roles and having a huge effect on the team, this was the problem last season it was nothing to do with players being tired from the World Cup, that excuse and getting lucky to get to Madrid papered over all the cracks.

Exactly it's mental. Why have the best striker in the world playing behind someone else.

If anything start in the formation that works and change it when winning and high on confidence. Needs to have a proper look at himself.

We did it plenty last season and it was effective on occasions. We don't play a static formation, our players change positions plenty. I do not see the harm, if it makes defenders think about who they are up against and keeps them on their toes.

When was it effective. I can only think of the United game away.

(Effective meaning result and performance).

The only other game it was effective was the rent boys at Wembley.

All our best performances last season came when we played 4231, all those losses in the league was not a coincidence we effectively won the lottery getting fourth because the rent boys the scum and United were just as brick.

Looks like @7percent has fallen foul of my friend Espen and the Scandinavian tradition of "snus". Basically nicotine in a bag that you put under your upper lip.

Honestly, I was never in doubt. As soon as we scored the first, I knew we would win.
Eriksen changed the game completely when he came on. He dictated and upped the tempo of the game.

But he's not that good, so we should get rid of him as soon as possible, going by the concensus around here. We have no need for a player like him...

What were those three formations? We carried on switching in the second half. We change things when we are winning too.

I would say we played two started with the diamond, switched to 4231 after 20 minutes but with the front 4 as square pegs in round holes until Eriksen came on, then we went,

Kane

Lamela. Eriksen. Lucas

then N’koudou was a straight swap for Lamela, the only difference in the second half before Eriksen came on was Lamela, after we switched in the first half he kept drifting in from the left, Poch obviously told him to stay wide at ht which he did so it looked more like a 4231 but it was still 4 square pegs in round holes, the Eriksen sub wasn’t just Eriksen coming on it put 10 players in their natural positions only Lamela was out of position until he was subbed.

Apart from Eriksen being deeper than Sissoko a lot of the time, Danny Rose playing parts of the second half in central midfield and Lamela still positioned centrally a lot of the time. It is a mistake to think of static formations with us, players switch positions all of the time.
