Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

whats that got to do with my point? The survey did not indicate Ireland want him to be more accommodating, it wasn't in the question.
Yet less accommodating isn't possible.

The survey didn't specify precisely how they want him to negotiate - maybe they want him to negotiate in lederhosen? Or standing on his head? Or maybe the more likely option is that they don't like that hard line he is taking.

of course it is - they may want him to kick Boris in the nuts. In all seriousness he has been quite accommodating when speaking, they may want him to talk tougher.

I would LOVE IT if the vote of no confidence passes and Johnson loses the election.

He’d forever be known as the Prime Minister who presided over the summer recess.

Danish's post is interesting. It highlights that supporting Brexit (probably popularism too) is as much about a desire to shake things up, as it is a movement about specific issues. People want the stale politics to be deconstructed and rebuilt to actually do something (more). Which I whole heartedly agree with. But that has to be in the UK, by the UK, which we could do now, without imparing our ability to trade and cooperate with other close countries.

I'd say it's a hunger for democracy, in place of corporate power. Elections mean nothing if you are permanently locked into a system. You can't be anything other than neo-liberal within the EU

Absolutely. If population growth has slowed in parallel too, that's exactly what should be happening.

Problem is people don't want or like to become poorer. But that is what is happening, all be it slow enough that we can't see it. Value of the pound - the markets rating of our nation's value and future prospects - is low! Anything we buy from abroad is costing us more than it did. Want to travel or invest abroad - and we're poorer now than we were.

That is not a good thing. Not something we want. What happened to making Britian great again? Seems to be sliding the other way.

A cheaper £ means better exports - especially outside the shackles of EU trade barriers.

Not sure how good you are with trend lines, but the graph in the article you linked shows a trend starting well before 2016.

If only we were staying in the EU with a bright future like France:

Or Germany:

It's not becoming poorer. It's just measuring wealth by something other than the rate we burn oil. Most people are time poor, not money poor

I don't want to be a great country. I don't want to be a fat western pig consuming everything in sight. I don't want to crush you with my military might. Happiness is far more important.

The lower value of the pound is good for the economy. It improves our balance of payments and helps us become self-sufficient. Pre-EU control over the economy, the first rule of economic reform was always to devalue the currency, to make yourself more competitive.

Again, from Ireland I can confirm most Irish people are happy with the manner in which Varadkar and Coveney are dealing with the border issue. If you think they will change their stance as a result of pressure from within Ireland yo're going to be even more disappointed. It just wont happen.

Can I just ask - do you believe in environmentalism?

Because the deal with environmentalism is that we consume less, produce less and transport less. So all environmental action leads directly to the economy shrinking.

The source of that drop from 60% approval on his method of "negotiation" to 40% is from the Irish press. If what you say is true, why are those people so shy about their opinions?

The only two upside to a weaker pound is exports are cheaper for other nations and more attractive, and tourists get cheaper hols in the UK. But it is not a good thing. The downsides of a weaker currency are outweigh these benifits. There is a reason poorer less successul countries have weaker currencies, and successful stable nations have more valuable currencies!

How can increasing exports not be good for the country?

That only applies is you are a nation like China or Vietnam where your wages are low and you want exports to be attractive. The UK is an advanced economy which offers higher end engineering or more common services. Things which people expect to be expensive. A lower pound is quite simply a lower valuation of the UK. End of.

We are competing to sell those items with countries like Germany. Why would we want the £ to be more expensive than the € when doing so? We would just be handicapping our industries before we even start.
