Just watched a 6 episode documentary about the Apollo missions. Great stuff. Considering the technology at the time, it was one hell of an achievement!

Why risk putting people up there? Computers are more capable, more reliable and arguably more replaceable.

Also, what's the point? It's very very expensive, it's still involves a great deal of risk, and achieves very little.

!!!!!!!! We're talking about USA here, when did they ever care about risking people if there's a buck in it. I could understand if there was no financial benefit in the project but that would mean someone admitting that was the case.

I think NASA have been fairly open about their reduction in manned missions wherever possible due to the huge expense of it.
