Moussa Sissoko

As good as he has been, like all players he still has his limitations and some of those, such as his clumsy, ungainly style, his proneness to mistakes and/or his embarrassing limitations in front of goal might be seen as perfectly valid reasons to say he does not belong in a Tottenham shirt.

We, supposed cheerleaders, see those supposed limitations. Yes - he does look like Bambi on ice sometimes, yes, he does seem to be enveloped by a red mist when he enters the opponent's box with the ball at his feet. We see that... we are not blind!

But we see other things too... his style may be ungainly and definitely not as pleasing on the eye as someone like Moura or Lamela. Only difference is that the south americans' running achieves sweet fudge all whereas Sissoko is a nightmare to opponents and is constantly transitioning our play into effective attacks through a speed and strength that other players dream about. He may make a mistake from time to time but he more than compensates for them with the amount of time he bails out much more serious and frequent brainfarts from the likes of Trippier and Aurier. He cannot find the net if his life depended on it but his heart and passion in the shirt more than make up for it big time as does his indefatigable spirit to keep going until the last minute and more. Above all we are in awe of man who could have just crawled into his shell following disgusting brick-baiting and name calling but stood proud in the face of his spacegoaters and came out with his head high. Ball control and poised running are a dime a dozen; true character is rarer than gold.

If you remember, that's what Poch said about him when he played against us for Saudi Sportswashing Machine. He said at that time that it was what was missing from our squad and why he was bought.

So he is brick in front of goal and that's bad fir some and a stick to beat him with. He's not in the team to score goals.
Eriksen can't or won't tackle, but that's OK because he has other talents.
Huge double standards when judging Sissoko.
Why can't some realise that there is 11 players on the in different specialised positions for a reason.
Dm/cm that scores or assists regularly would not be at spurs and the same could be said for a ball winning hard tackler that can do what Eriksen does.

There are double standards with most players. For example, Eriksen gets slagged off on here much of the time - even when he has played well some numpty will moan that he doesn't break legs or win towering headers. The criticism of Sissoko made more sense for his first roughly two years at the club because he wasn't very good at anything. And you are spot on, that people will unfairly slag him off because he loses control or misplaces a pass - even when he sets up the only goal away at Dortmund. The Sissoko of the start of this season might have knocked that ball into touch!

I really think Sissoko has been a capable replacement for Dembele. Not 1:1 in terms of their play style, but I really enjoyed watching Dembele pushing the ball forwards and thought that was a huge reason we were so successful in creating chances AND preventing opposition attacks.

Important? Yes, absolutely. Superb? Absolutely not, unless youve a VERY relaxed definition of the term.

And herein lies the double standard. Anyone blowing OTT smoke up his ass is completely welcome, and anyone who might disagree is really not.

Nah mate IMO you are wrong.
By his previous standards it has been a superb season.
By any measure, it has been a great season.
You can hammer on ‘til you’re blue in the face, I believe I am right.

well then let. It. Go.

Pressure from the mods? Why should I? Why shouldnt I be able to share my feelings on a player?

Oh thats right, everyone loses their brick.

"By his standards" - he has been absolutely fudging amazing. Im not sure "superb" does him justice.

I got slammed for suggesting people judge him on his own scale though, so I do appreciate you admitting it. I have, however, been judging him by the teams standards.

And he just isnt "superb" in that context at all. There have been at least 5 better performers this year.

Id say he was #1 for giving as much as he can. That doesnt mean thats actually top level football though, rather massive heart.

By any measure he has been great? Honestly? Id have to say thats a rather emotional/romantic view. Not sure its a tangible one. You are of course free to such, people view the game in different ways.

If you're judging him by the team's standards, how is it that he is almost always in the top 3 performers each game and MoM on several occasions?

The bottom line is that relative to the rest of the team he has been one of our best performers. And if that means that the rest of the team is more gifted but aren't performing up their standards, well in that case I would take a team of 11 good to very good players consistently playing to their potential to a team of superstars that sometimes show up and sometimes don't.

He’s probably a front runner for the ballon d’or at this point.

This is EXACTLY what Nayim’s talking about in terms of this thread going OTT. Jesus....

Anyway, not sure for next season whether to get Sissoko GOAT or GOAT Sissoko on my shirt

.

Nayim.

Let me be crystal clear.
A disagreement or back and forth with me is all good.

The snide assertion that I am telling you to “let it go” because I am a mod is BANG out of order. I don’t work like that. In life. Full-stop.

The reason I said that was simply because you claim you don’t care yet come back for more and then complain that people bite back.
Mate. Carry on if you like, but don’t go all “woe is me” when people give it back.
