Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Not totally buying that everyone has moved forward.
Liverpool have a glaring problem in goal and they've sorted it, maybe.
But who else has made signing that will significantly improve their team?
City are so far ahead it doesn't matter who they sign.
Man u are stock piling defenders
Chelsea could lose their three best players
Arsenal need a rebuild and haven't signed anyone of note.

Arsenal have signed Torreira to bolster their midfield and they moved on Wilbrick. They have that new defender whose name I can’t spell. And don’t have to rely on Cech now, with Leno having signed. Plus Aubameyang could be huge for them having now had six months in the Premier League and no World Cup.

Liverpool are the team with biggest improvement. Other than failing to upgrade Lovren, they have significantly improved their team. Fabinho and Keita are very good. And their new keeper Allison will earn them the points lost by Karius/Mignolet. I think they are the biggest threat to City.

United, I agree they haven’t improved really yet. But could do if they sign Alderweireld and another.

We seem as if we are refusing to play ball with new transfer fees. I can understand that it’s crazy money BUT this is now the world in which we operate. So to an extent, do we not have to live within that world too?

I still think Liverpool are a very unbalanced squad.
The keeper is an upgrade, no doubt.
Jury is out on Keita, was brilliant, then poor. Which one will be his true level and which one the outlier?
But those were easily identified problem areas for Liverpool, so fairly straight forward to rectify. What's our weakness? We don't have any glaring holes in our squad.
I don't think its anything to do with fees, there seems to be a General unwillingness to do business. This must be the the lowest spending window for a long time.

Our weaknesses are:
No reserve left back. I’m assuming Rose will leave.
No 3rd centre back. I don’t trust Dier as centre back. Is Foyth ready? Davies is definitely not a centre back and he is also our only left back.
Midfield. We need to replace Dembele if he is leaving. I’m not convinced by Dier who is inconsistent. And Wanyama appears to be more injury prone than before.
We have great attacking options. So I’m happy there.

Dont see who will buy rose atm. His problems are there for the world to see.
But you are talking hypothetical cases, they haven't left, and with the clock ticking there's as much chance of them leaving as there is of us signing someone to replace them.

"Does not compute" "Does not compute" Does not compute"

They ( the experts) all know its Levy playing his games again. ;)

So I guess you don’t rate Dier then!?

I guess a lot depends on Toby and Rose, but as they haven’t left yet we can’t criticise us not replacing them in advance.

Centre mid, having been an area I thought we were strong in last pre season looks to be the priority with question marks over the fitness of Wanyama and Winks and an acceptance that even if he does stay dembele is unable to play every game. If everyone stays and we only sign one player it needs to a top top centre mid.

Dier is ok as a defensive midfielder but I don’t think he’s as good as his equivalent at most of our rivals. I really don’t rate him at centre back. He’s not a defender/,

He’s stood still for me for a season and a half now, although being moved around positionally hasn’t helped short term. I’m hoping we’ll see him kick on this season.

The one person we needed in that window was a fudging manager who kept his skirt well and truly down, his knickers pulled up and his eye on the job. Good grief, the man was telling courts willingly that his dog had a better understanding of business than he did! Sorry, between that and the absolutely disgraceful hawking for the England job, I cannot blame Levy for not giving him 50 million to spend. In fact, looking at his transfer record, we'd have been in deep, deep brick for several years!!!!! The man tried to move Bale on and turned down the likes of Suarez!

The England stuff happened after the window closed, and the dodgy court stuff wasn't related to his managerial qualities - just to him being dodgy in general.

Also, the man did sign Crouch, Gallas, Bassong, Palacios, Parker, Sandro, Walker... and he did re-sign Defoe. He wasn't bad in the market, come on.

Apologies BTW, but whenever that season and specific time-frame comes up, I get PTSD mate, LOL...

I do too, mate. And remembering how it finished....:(

He had been talking about wanting to manage England for ages. Crapello's sacking simply brought it forwards. He refused to commit to a contract extension mid-season. As for those signings, they were (bar Walker, who I believe along with Naughton were Pleat signings) were quick ones to get us out of trouble initially. You should've also mentioned re-signing Keane for that matter. He signed nobody with a shelf-life even a smidge longer than his own. Anyway, best leave it alone...I than k him for the 4-4 and that night at Eastlands among a few other great evenings of which he was a part without being the architect!

Well, either way, I agree with you.

We have a better manager than Harry now, and this is his thread, not Harry's. :)

AC Milan in the champs league was good as well, odd because he an old fashioned coach schooled the AC Milan manager.

"If some people believe the manager of Tottenham doesn't want trophies they are not right in their minds. I am here to win," he said.

"Another reality is to win and to have the argument about having the tools to win. That is different. Of course it is a massive success at the club to be in the Champions League for the third year in a row. But maybe that is not enough or maybe we need to change certain things. For me it is not enough.

"I want to challenge and fight until the end, or until that moment when my chairman Daniel Levy says to me ‘Mauricio, go home or find another project.’ I feel responsible for this after four years with the club to try to achieve what the fans want.

"Maybe our history and the reality is different, but the players are fighting and working so hard and we are there. Maybe we didn't deserve more for many reasons, but of course to compete at that level and challenge the big sides that are only focused on improving their teams, while the reality for us has been improving our facilities - building the training ground and new stadium - I think it is not fair to compare us with these kinds of clubs that are only focused on improving their squads."

"In football all can happen. It will be tough because our opponents are at a level where every year they improve," said Pochettino. "For us it’s always about keep pushing with different energy and different tools. Everything is different. We are competing in the same race but with a different car."
