Summer 2018 transfer thread

No, we have been successful due to a variety of factors; Levy, Poch and of course the players. However, the transfer policy at times leaves a lot to be desired and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we start seasons slow year after year as a result of leaving our business so late in the window.

I get that we don’t have the financial muscle of our rivals but it’s almost like some fans act like we are the most unique club in world football and we have no choice but to wait until every other club buys players before we do.

You do recognise that the transfer policy you are whining about is the exact same one that has put together (arguably) the best squad we have ever had? (most definitely in the last 30 years)

We have been on an upward curve for the last 15 years, the only consistent thing through that whole period is Levy and how he does transfers.

Seems a bit odd to try and suggest we are successful in spite of this.

Dont get me wrong, Id love nothing more than to line up all the deals we want and confirm them on day 1. Im also pretty sure the club would love to as well. Stands to reason theres a reason why they dont do this. Could it be that its actually really difficult?

Who said I was whining about it? Is criticism not allowed? How about I just say this transfer has been brilliant and say I couldn’t be happier? Would that make you happy?

I’m saying that our transfer policy sometimes hinders us and leaving our business so late in almost window potentially costs us points.

If people aren’t allowed to express frustration after a summer of zero signings less than 10 days before the season starts then I really do give up.

nah he has been labelled as brick and not good enough because he was turgid against us

Honestly couldnt say much about him myself. Who even watches much of Watford? From my vast experience watching MOTD he seems to crop up a lot as a performer for them.

Its one of those, if Poch wants him then fine - whatever. He deserves that.

Thats not to say he always gets it right, but if you cant have faith in the manager then whats the point?

"I definitely wouldn't say we've been successful because of the transfer policy."

Seems fairly absolute to me. Followed by complaints about said policies effect on the beginning of the season.

Reads to me very much like whining, though I accept it can be a failing of a message board to read things with the wrong intent.

You are of course more than welcome to express whatever frustrations you like, but in doing so on a public message board you are also open to people responding.

That's why we signed Moura. He's just been forgotten about because he's no longer shiny and new

With Zaha it helps to look at what he could become with top coaching. I think there is an extra 30% there. The only question would be if the player himself wants to work for that extra 30%. If he does, I think there is a genuine beast to be had. Imagine having him and Moura with Eriksen sitting deeper next to Dier and Alli behind Kane against some sides. Personally, that is a potentially mouth-watering thought. I am resting Sonny there BTW because he won’t be fully charged before Nov IMO...

Tottenham starlet Marcus Edwards wanted by Bayer Leverkusen in permanent deal
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino compared teenager to Lionel Messi when he handed him first team debut as a 17-year-old but Leverkusen want to take him to Germany and give him regular football

TOTTENHAM starlet Marcus Edwards is wanted by Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

The German club want the highly-rated teenager on a permanent basis, believing he could follow Jadon Sancho by making his mark in the league after quitting England.

Edwards was compared to Lionel Messi by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino when he handed him his first team debut as a 17-year-old.

And the London club quickly tied him down to a long term professional deal which still has two years left to run.

But despite being a regular for England at youth team age groups and being a part of the side who won the European under-19 Championship last year, the 19-year-old has struggled to get a Spurs first team chance.

And now he could be the latest young English player to quit the country and move overseas to continue his development as a player.

SunSport understands Leverkusen have made contact with Spurs to begin talks over a fee for the youngster, who until an ankle operation soon after his debut had been regarded as one of the country's best young talents.

The German club fear they are about to lose at least one of their two much-wanted wide men Leon Bailey or Julian Brandt before the transfer window closes.

And they have highlighted Edwards as the ideal player to come in should either be sold.

Chelsea have shown an interest in signing Bailey this month, while Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is undertsood to be keen on Brandt.

The fact Leverkusen have begun the process of trying to sign Edwards suggests they are moving closer to allowing one of their current stars to leave.

Should Edwards make the move, he would become the latest young English talent to move abroad in order to get the regular first team football they need to develop their games.

And he would be the second product of Tottenham's academy to leave within the space of a month, after Reo Griffiths snubbed a professional contract and opted to join Lyon.

England starlet Sancho left Emirates Marketing Project last season and is already starting to establish himself as a regular in the first team at Borussia Dortmund.

Ademola Lookman could return to RB Leipzig from Everton on a permanent basis following a successful loan period last season.

And forward Chris Willock decided to quit Arsenal to join Benfica last year, where he has already established himself as a first team regular.

If true it’s one of the reasons many are frustrated, there would be no reason we couldn’t have sorted this early.

He wasn’t at World Cup, so why wait till last week?
Maybe we had other, better, targets and have spent the summer going for them?

Which would you rather, compromise on 01 June or go for something more ambitious?

You have to laugh at people questioning our transfer policy (its not perfect, nothing is), when our squad was recently valued the same as Emirates Marketing Project's.

It is what some do and they do it every year, they seem to overlook the fact that our transfer policy has seen us become one of the best clubs in the Prem. Its not good enough i suppose.

I think we can remove De Ligt from the list. He's playing for Ajax in their CL qualifier, which I think means that he can't play for another team in the CL, or does the qualifiers not count?
