I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

I think plenty understand, they just dont all think its enough.

Im on the fence with it myself.

I do like him, a lot, and appreciate what he brings - but I also get frustrated with him far too often.

He needs to perform more consistently like he did in the second half today, and he has it in him - which is where that frustration lays with me. He can and should be better, even if he is very good to start with.

This … when looking at Lamela without bias

- no one can question the effort
- no one can question he adds a bite that opponents will never like (best nickname I heard for him from another poster was murder machine)
- no one can question his football ability and his intelligence (moments with him & Eriksen can be outrageous)
- but equally he's not the attacking threat he was in Italy in any consistent way.

He's been horribly influenced by two major injuries (back when he joined, hips for last season and part of this), hopefully they are not re-occurring.

If he can add threat, goal/assist in the double figures type range, he'd be a very important piece of the team, if he sticks in the all effort/bite, then he'll be more bit part.

This could well be the missing ingredient. Every time he starts to really find his stride he gets injured. And then starts again, and he isnt one to just hit form right off the bat.

Perhaps finishing the season well, then having a full pre season - maybe we will see the proper Lamela next year?

I hope you’re right because I think Lamela has more than he’s shown us since he signed. He’s been the second best of the “Bale 7” but only because 4-5 of them were tinkle poor.

Outside of his form everything I’ve seen or heard about him is great. Mason reckoned his attitude, work rate and love for the game is second to none and I love his mentality. He wants to win at all costs and will engage in the dark arts better than anyone else we have.

He is so much fitter IMHO than he has ever been at Spurs and looks more at home.
I wonder how many times in matches he has turned away from the simple pass to a teammate in the opposition area, to take it back across the opponents defensive line then pass it short to the opposite full back. It's a trait.

Is it the time to unload him? He always gives 100% but his passing is often poor as his decision making, when we play with him Sisokko and Wanyama we lose the ball a lot or slow play down. I love his attitude but if we are to offer a real challenge next season we need some real class in the midfield who can offer a goal threat.

Unload him, not for me.
Not his biggest fan but he really looks good ATM. Me mercurial? never
The midfield upgrade bit, yep but not a clue who we can afford who will improve us dramatically.

Only seen the highlights but he looked up for it yesterday, as he Always does.
Scores, grabs ball runs up field and still manages to foul one of their players.
Say what you like but he is winner, no fudging about with silly handshake, daft celebrations or that malarkey.
Must win or die trying.

What you get from Lamela ( even when he has a poor game) is total commitment to the cause and he works harder then anyone i have seen in our shirt since Perryman. He has the ability and i hope he can have a season without injury next year and he can show that ability more.

Changing my pick for the WC then, had them as strong favourites assuming a fit Lamela would be tearing around behind Messi.

Defence is obviously a bit shoddy (though still better than England’s), but that midfield and attack really ought to make them one of the best in the world, they’re underperforming quite remarkably!

If Simeone, took a 2/4 year club sebatical he’d do some serious damage with this lot.
