Summer 2018 transfer thread

Shame City have a number of young players as well, and they too are developing and maturing. I do not think a Leicester will be winning the league any time soon

Said it before. . City have been buying young talent and have set themselves up for the future now before additional FFP rules come in

Fully expect them to just tinkle off other sides by pushing for their players like Bayern do

Agreed, which is another reason why I have been saying we need to strengthen

As I was saying earlier this afternoon on this thread, to compete for the title we need to strengthen our team if we want to be serious about winning the league title, we are simply not strong enough at the moment.
Everyone agrees that we should do our utmost to improve. The question is what's the best approach to do that?

We could try to make a high profile signing to come in and improve us instantly. But any player of that quality will at least be closely watched by the ten or teams can outspend us in fees or wages. Is there a player like that we can get? Maybe...

Or we can look for the somewhat lower profile smart signing. The next Alli, Salah type player that isn't rated as highly as they should be for various reasons.

Combined with either strategy we should have course look to improve by our current players getting better. Particularly our youngest first team players, but also those around their mid twenties.

For me the slightly lower profile signings are likely going to end up our best option, but it depends entirely on what happens in the market and which players the richer clubs target. And what clubs and players start demanding when we try to make our moves. I trust the club to have identified a solid list of potential targets. And to do whatever can be done to strengthen our team in the summer market.

Encouraging quote from De Ligt:
"I am going to make a decision with my head, not based on money offers. I think some players would be tempted when they get massive offers. But compared to ordinary people I think I earn a huge wage right now, anyway. My next step just has to be right for me when I look at the team and where and how I will live."

I would hate to be responsible for player acquisitions.....such huge prices for run of the mill players!

How refreshing

He has dodgy knees but we have managed that before . We currently have a player who can’t run as back up

Rodriguez I like but he isn’t an out and out CF

I thought Poch was said to be looking at him. Being “versatile” is not a bad thing.

True but we have plenty that are like that

Give me a guroud type

Not versatile, just good at his job

Llorente is nailed on for that description :D
Giroud was a great buy for Chelsea!
I can’t think of many, there’s the Watford Brazilian lad.....but I’m unconvinced.
