The Youth Players/On-Loan Thread 2017/18

That is outrageous from Lallana. He’s practically choking Marsh. Not acceptable at any level but even more inappropriate by an experienced professional against a young academy player in an U 23 match.

This - you almost never see something like that - a child walking innocently away and a senior international charging over and throttling him. What injury is Lallana battling back from? I ask in case that was the target e.g. he's had a bad shoulder and someone deliberately elbowed him in that shoulder (like when Mackay and Leeds and broken leg and blah blah) which may mitigate/explain somewhat

He will get no suspension in the Premier Leauge because it happened in an u23-match. Make sense of it if you can.

That is mental.... It means that a team could effectively send a hatchet man out into an under 23 game with the intention of injuring a returning first team opposition player and there would be no penalty for doing so.
 
Yeah, i thought the same thing about Ings, ehen saw his name on the team sheet yesterday. He went to lfc, got hurt, and has disappeared off the face of the earth.
 
CCV played the full 90 mins in Ipswich's 0-0 draw with Burton.

Edwards still not even on the bench for Norwich.

Walkes played the full 90 in Portsmouths 2-1 win at MK dons.

Harrison came on for the last 5 mins in Southends 3-1 win over Wigan.

The was a lot of talk about him going down to Brighton. If they stay in the league I would not be surprised to see them take a punt on him. He needs to get out of Liverpool and quick if he wants any sort of a career. A couple of years of not playing will ruin you just look at Berahino.

I am starting to think the lad as skillful as he is wont make it, I know it is early days down there but it seems to be following a pattern. I think he will get sold to a mid level championship club and after a year or two end up in the American league.
 
Wasn't Onomah tipped to become a first team regular here in the next season or so? He can't even get a game for Villa.

Bit soon to write him off just yet don't you think?

Remember even Harry Kane has recently admitted to moments of despair when struggling to make it into the Leicester side when - just like Villa now - they were an up-and-coming Championship side.
 
Bruce won't chance playing Onomah in central mid and he's not a winger. Villa are in a playoff scrap too, so too high risk I guess.

Besides, Pritchard was a pivotal part of Brentfords playoff run a few years back, yet he didn't make it into our first team. I still hope he starts doing well for Huddersfield.
 
I tend to think loans to lower leagues are generally only good for toughening you up a bit, getting used to match days and fighting for a place.

The young guys rarely seem to rip up. They come back to their parent clubs and hopefully push on. I only think loans inside the premier league give you a good indication of what will happen to the player.

Even then they can still be good players. Just maybe not top 6 players. Quite a few of our former young players are doing well like Caroll, Livermore, Mason etc.

It does feel like though Onomah and CCV wont make it at spurs.
 
Id agree that lower league loans are more about the experience than they are performance based - extreme cases at either end probably an exception but i don't put too much stock in how the players perform at a lower level - better they iron out their kinks somewhere else too i suppose

Back in the day we use to send young players to Sweden to help them develop as players and people, Miller and Brooke were players it helped.
