You are the Ref

Interesting call of bs there 'Alan'

Many occasions ref has issued bookings and sendings off post-match. IIRC someone got another card after coming back for more near the tunnel, and all up-held as legitimate.

Until both teams are both in their changing rooms he's the authority. Even then he can add to his report.

For things that bring the game into disrepute yes. But no ref would issue a red for these.

Hackett is inconsistent in his analysis, I have two of these books. Half the time his answers are "use common sense" half the time he is "this is what the law is and it must be applied".

Great scenarios but answer are not always good

Therein lies the rub

1) Goal and booking.

2) Game over, no action. It's a bloody stupid rule to book players for taking off their shirts anyway.

3) As the six second rule quite clearly has been converted to a thirty second rule based on our recent games against Arse (being one goal down) and Chelski, the yellow card should be rescinded and the ref sent back to the championship for a game or three.

1. Do nothing, play on. It not uncommon for a shinpad or boot to come off now and then.

2. 'Cancel' the substitution and give him the 2nd yellow or straight red.

3. Its a legit goal, but maybe the other team will be good sports and put one in at the other end.

1) You're not going to be popular – but you need to stop the game. If the defender was going in for the tackle with his other leg, still protected by a shinpad, you could have allowed the passage of play to continue. But as it is, it's your primary job to protect players from causing danger to themselves or others, so you have to intervene. Stop play, explain the situation, have the defender leave the pitch to re-insert the pad, and restart with a dropped ball. Clive Russell wins the shirt.
2) The substitution may be complete now, but it wasn't when the offence took place. Swearing at you like this is a straight red card, so send him off, reducing his team to 10 players. His manager will now have to decide which other player to bring off if he still wants the substitution to happen. Thanks to B Duddy.
3) There has been no offence, and play was still live, so some would say you should award the goal – but this is a similar situation to question two. Player safety is paramount so, even though you hadn't blown the whistle, you can consider that play stopped the moment the players collided. Call the trainers on immediately, have both players leave the pitch after treatment, and restart with a dropped ball. Thanks to David Smith.

Damn - went to quote and got the spoiler included. Have excised from my response.

Have to say I agree with AS. "Play to the whistle" for 1 & 3, cartoons suggest immediacy.
