Neither him or Bergvall dropped deeper to get involved in buildup much. Seems like they were playing to instructions?A quiet thread, eh?!
Looked a bit meh/isolated and like he should be in the middle, orchestrating.
OBVIOUSLY will grow into things and be a key player, he is clearly a good player, but today was rather stifled.
Would like to see him be a bit more Billy Big Boll*cks and make things happen. In the first half it was awful seeing VdV pass to Spence pass to VdV pass to Spence pass to VdV pass to Spence pass to VdV pass to Spence pass to VdV pass to Romero pass to VdV pass to Spence.
I think they lacked the understanding so their natural talent came in moreLoved his game today - He is going to be deadly when he gets in the mood. Spence and him appear to have built a nice understanding on the left.
There was one moment where he played a no look reverse pass into the box down the left but no one was there to run onto it. He was assuming Spence would be there, it will take a while for it to click but once they are used to playing with each other he could be deadly. The pass would have been world class if Spence was on his wave length. I assume Simons was used to someone making those runs at Leipzig.
Was his debut. Seen better. Seen worse. Thought he looked a threat and he will hopefully grow in confidence and understanding game by gameThought he looked good, really promising, surprised to see the “meh” comments..
There's a bit of a modric thing going on in that out wide probably the best place for a foreign new attacking player to the PL who isnt physically the biggest/strongest. I'm sure his longer term position will be in the centreI thought he looked quite good as well, but I wanted to see him more in the middle in that 10 role. There was space for him there to exploit. He did link up nicely with Spence quite a few times though.
